Ok, I did a search on this problem but didn't find anything. A friend of mine was in town this past weekend and filled my car up with gas. Evidently he didn't get the gas cap back on right because today while driving it to work I get the message to check my gas cap.

After putting it back on correctly I am still getting the same message. Do I need to take it back to the dealer to have the computer reset or something?

    Any input would be appreciated,
    Thanks

Try filling it up again and putting the gas cap back on correctly. The computer may be having a brain fart. If that doesn't work, take her in. Good luck :)

Just disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect. It allows the computer to reset. Don't forget to reset your clock when done.

I've heard (though I may be wrong) that you should never do a reset on your own. The problem (if there is one) may remain, though the computer won't recognize it.

Easiest thing as previously suggested is to fill it back up with gas. Sometimes it takes turning on and off several times.

When I fixed the cap the first time the car was still running, so we will see after I turned it off if it resets itself.

    Thanks for the help!!

it takes a while for the computer to catch up. it will go off in a few days by itself.
