Fellas, I am really wanting to swap my 3.55's out for 4.10's, but I am concerned about gear whine, proper installation, expense, etc.

I called Tommie Vaughn, which is a dealership here in Houston which specializes in performance parts. They quoted me EIGHT (8) hours for labor, at their shop rate of $95 per hour, or $760 total (I have the gears already). I said I thought that was a bit high, and he proceeded to tell me that they can be tricky.

I think this is too high, and I know attorneys who don't make $95 an hour.

Who else can I go to for a reasonable install yet who has experience and can get it done right, with as little gear whine as possible.

Woodlands Performance won't install parts that they don't provide, so I was thinking of Dyno Joe but would like some first hand reviews of his past gear work. If anyone has personal experience that might help, please let me know.

    Thanks, everyone, in advance.

Tommie Vaughn also wants $1600 dollars for a stupid stock clutch replacement. Forget it.

There's a few places you can try:

    1) Slater's Mustang in Atascocita
    2) Strictly Performance
    3) DynoJoe
    4) Houston Performance
    5) PSI motorsports

    Also welcome to the site!

I got my 4:10 installed a while back and I think the labor was about $250 to $300 flat rate plus (in my case) the cost of the gear set and gear oil etc. I think that $760 is insane I hope the suggestions you got from "Watler" are helpful to you.

    Fixed... :D

Btw.. to the OP the numbers I put on the shop names are at random I can't really recommend any of them because so far I've done all the work to my car.

I also I hear Jon Michaels down in Santa Fe does good work (though its a normal shop) and this other place ( forgot the name ) by 1960 and Jones is supposed to build some killer domestics.

I just recently picked up a 06 GT and will likely get QMS in the SugarLand area to install my gears as he did on my previous mustang. He beat everyones prices previously and likely will do so again. I'll update once I get the quote.

I know of a couple of guys who've used Pyle Bros.

    They specialize in gears.
