Going Carbed, a few questions for the wise.

    going carbed, (dont ask why, I have my reasons)
    My questions would be:
    Do i really need a new fuel pickup?? if so why cant i reuse my efi pickup?
    Can i use my old distributor?
    something that may make you really scratch your heads is that i have a SLIDER motor, not a roller motor.
    Im not sure if that will make a difference or not, but I thought I would put it out there.
    The carb system im going with is a holley 750 double pumper w/ mechanical secondary and a edelbrock air-gap rpm intake. also a holley blue pump w/ regulator (as i stated before)

    Also, what else Might I need ignition wise??
    Anything Im missing????
    (I have the wiring part down pat, so dont worry about that)

    New 306 SLIDER block, 1.72 crane roller rockers, Competition cams 280 camshaft, Forged rods and pistons, offroad h-pipe, Flowmasters, K&N filter, Trick Flow Trac-Heat Twisted wedge heads, BBK shorty headers, Centerforce clutch, Metal quadrant, hurst shifter, Mrgasket engine set, 3:55 gears, Edelbrock Air-Gap intake, holley double pumper 750 carb w/ mechanical 2nds, Lightened pulleys, Alluminum driveshaft, Race Pro Aluminum Radiator

    You will at least need to remove the efi pump from the tank and replace it with a hose or pickup tube, as I doubt the external pump will pull fuel through the original pump. With a older style non roller motor, you could probably use a stock style mechanical fuel pump also. Search here, lots have done this. I am still in the process, but I think I am going to a sumped tank anyway.

    You will need a Duraspark distributor, and with a non roller motor, any old non roller dist will drop in and work. The drive gear need to be compatible with the cam material. You need the Duraspark 2 distributor, the box and a coil, and obviously, wiring. Note that this requires a ballast resistor, or resistor wire for the stock coils. Most Duraspark cars had a resistor wire in the harness.

    The 750 dp sounds like overkill to me, I would use a vacuum secondary 600 or 650, but with a stick car the 750 may work. I had a 750 dp on a 4 speed 383 Dodge, and it was gross overkill, the 600 worked much better.

    Uh, that 750 is way too big. Also, why dont you just use the EFI pump thats in tank. Its cheaper and easier. Just run a return style FP regulator. One in, one return, and one out to the carb. Dial it down to 7-8 psi to the carb. You dont need any aftermarket fuel pump for that motor. As for the dizzy, if the car is running right now with EFI then it'll continue to run with carb if you dont mess with it. Just make sure if its a slider motor that the dizzy has an iron distributor gear and not the roller cam steel one or it'll eat up the cam gear.

    thanks for all the help, but im still wary of using the high pressure efi pump.

    trust me, the AFPR regulates the high pressure down to a safe 7-8 psi for your carb. And then the return part routes the unused gas back to the pump like EFI so the pump doesnt get warn out.

    Hmmmmmm....
    Im pretty sure That the distributor is the one for a roller motor.
    I basically just put a slider block in there, caz the old one got a crack in the wall.
    It does seem to be running a little bit funny right now, with a little bit of bucking or hesitation untill you hit higher rpms.
    could me using a old distributor be what is causing this?
