Just Introducing Myself, I have a 2004 Black Mustang Cobra thats going to be delivered to me in about a Week. I live in Montreal, car was bought from a Dealer in Denver Colorado. It has 12,500Miles on it and was owned by a woman before she traded it back in to the original selling dealer. (I know cause i work for a Ford Dealer here in Montreal and was able to do alot of backround research on the car) It also has a 6 year 120,000KM Premium Care warrenty on it I plan on keeping this car for a long time and take my time modding it. The first and most important question i have on my mind if finding an experienced Tuner close by (and a Dyno) Just asking if anyone can point me in the right direction. Thanx
Welcome to the forums and congratulations on the new Snake! You're going to love it. As far as a tuner... most folks these days are using one of the handheld units like a Predator or XCal2. They purchase these units from a respectable tuner along with a pre-loaded custom tune based on their current mods. The tuners these days are so good that they can email you a tune based on your current mods and the gas you have available that is 99% spot on. The only need for a dyno is to double check your A/F ratio to ensure it's safe. If not you email the run file to the tuner and he emails back your tune with some tweaks. I highly recommend these guys: http://www.runninwiththedevil.com The carry both the Predator series of programmers and the SCT XCal2's. Again... Welcome to the forums! U.M.
Thanx! I was planning on getting the Xcal2 anyway, just want to find a local Dyno... (and maybe someone to teach me a little bit about what is involved in the settings.
I assume you're referring to the settings on the XCal2? Like turning traction control on or off? Or adjusting the ECM for a rear end gear change? Those types of settings? Or are you more interested in getting into the actual tuning of the motor and making changes to fuel trim tables and things such as that? U.M.
CONGRATS!!!!! Ok.....U.M. Is as 'Dorthoy' would claim....as the all knowing powerful "OZ".... I would add..... My experience...... Get a Xcal...not predator....although our tuner may use that to upload tunes..................... I have a SCT 4-bank "raptor" that holds 4 separate tunes.... Get these mods: *3.1 upper w/ 6# lower!!! What I am getting!!! Or atleat a 2.76 upper pulley...14+ boost!! *JLT CAI!!! The best on the market! K&N FIPK is next choice for me cuz I had both. *X or H o/r pipe.......BBK or MAC...........or PYPES. *Good cat back......Magnaflow, MAC, or Borla....Bassani is good too...just $$ like magnaflow. Steg port STG 3, not 4. *good tuner.....RWTD, Amazon, HPP.......... You will have ATLEAST 495-505 rwhp... good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see that you recommend the stage 3 port, not the stage 4 Curious to why that is. May I also recommend one of the best tuners around, Jon Lund of Lund Racing.
For that you will need something like the SCT racers package. The Predator or XCal2 will only allow the end user to make general or broad changes to parameters affecting fuel and such. For instance, the Predator will allow you to richen or lean out a couple percentage points off fuel from mid-RPM's to redline. It's not complex enough to allow you to add more fuel at a specific RPM point... To do that kind of tuning you'd want something like this: http://www.sctflash.com/product_racer.php U.M.
I cant find a price on the Flash Version, although im guessing its alot, This looks like something that can create tunes for more than one vehicle (not vin locked) so im sure i can find some mustang friends to split it with thanx for the link, lotsa learning to do....
Forgot about Lund. I have heard good things. But as far as the port goes....I have 2 statements. #1 I have seen numerous lightnings with a stage 4 not gain any power....and one of my friends actually lost tq. I have seen 3 cobras gain only 2-3 hp. #2 I also believe that you can over-port something, which I feel is happening..... and last....too much more $$ for only 10 claimed HP. Just my.02
99% of all the people who receive a Stage 4 port from Steig see approximately 40-50RWHP gains, throw in the TB & inlet port and those numbers jump to 60RWHP. Of course this is only true if you are spinning the living crap out of the blower with an upper and lower pulley combo. Just porting the blower and running a 2.93 won't show those big gains... U.M.
sorry....I forgot to add....the 2-3 hp increase was over a stage 3. Plenum, yes, more power there, but it is that way with both. And you are right. although Steg doesn't say so, you DO need to spin tons more to see the power he advertises. On the port alone, I just gained 15 hp. With the port, my JLT and new exhaust I gained around 50.
