Help What To Do??????? Hey guys whats up, I have a 1996 v6 5spd. It has 185,000 miles on it I know. And I wanted to supercharge it around 8-11psi but before I go and blow my engine in half, I wanted to know if my stang would handle that psi if I get forged internals? Or would it be cheaper to do an engine swap with a 99+ engine? How much would a complete engine swap cost? Please help!!!! Thank you, jeremiah.
Chit that alot 185,000 damn youd be better off with a 99+ than the blower, but for the price id go as far as to say get a 99+ GT motor itd prolly cost about a grand more or so but ive seen them complete with tranny for around 2,000 dollars around here it had 22,000 miles on a 01' (mind you thats a relyable motor and a 5speed tranny) they required you to come and pick it up, from there just get a driveshaft off a GT and 8.8 rearend. blowing the V6 with those miles could last as little as the first time you punch it but i dunno wait till people with brains post but i feel pretty strong about just doing a 6 to 8 swap if you have the money for the blower
I think your best bet would be getting a different car. I wouldn't trust a supercharger on an 185,000 engine. A V6 to V8 swap is alot of work, time, and money. Don't bother. Take the money and get yourself a used 99+ and throw in the SC.
I would only put a blower on that engine if you pull it and rebuild it, using forged internals. I wouldn't trust the stock powdered metal rods and the worn bearings and other stuff on a blower, especially with 189k miles. There's no problem with the block with those miles. A used block is considered "seasoned", and all the residual stresses from manufacturing have worked themselves out. The rotating assembly does lose strength as it ages, though, and your engine is probably getting ready for an overhaul as it is. Since you'll have the heads off, you can send them to get them ported while you do the bottom end. That will help your blower make even more power.
the only thing i read was blower, v6, 1980000000 miles. www.rpm-mustangs.com www.supersixmotorsports.com these two places will help you out with anything you wanna do, which if you plan on s/cing that motor you'll need to do alot. you would be better off getting a new one for alot cheaper from rpm
anytime. just, if youre planning on force feeding that motor youll need to be care and check certain things, suspension, tranny and of course the internals. the only reason i said to get a new motor was because for the price o f rebuilding one fo the v6's you can usually just get a whole new one for about the same price... if not a little cheaper. plus it'll have alot of good parts in it if you get it from rpm
