Has any one replaced their entire Mach 460 system with a new head unit and new componet speakers and not used amps. I want to get an alpine head unit and run two sets of alpine 5x7 component systems but I just want to wire the systems into the headunit. My thought is to just use the wiring for the factory tweeters and plug the crossovers from component system into that becasue those wires should go directly back to the headunit since the tweeters are not run off the amps.
Honestly man, its not worth it! The mach system WILL sound better than using the 5x7's wired straight to the head unit. When you crank up the volume, your THD rating (total harmonic distortion) is so high, it will crack and fuzz. At least the Mach system with the amplifiers prevent some of this. The fuzz you WILL experience wiring the 5x7's will come from lack of power supplied to the speakers. Whenever speakers crackle/fuzz/sound like crap its not because the speakers suck, its because they aren't being supplied enough power. 99% of components need way more power than a standard speaker, and a head unit wont cut it. however, invest in a 4 channel used amp off of ebay for 100$ (i recommend SS autotek.. awesome bang for the buck) the components will sound PHENONEMAL. the THD rating is MUCH lower, and your speakers will scream. Its not worth the time and money to install and buy speakers and a head unit with no amps. Also, for future expansion reasons, make sure your head unit at least has 2 sets of pre-amp outputs, preferably 3 for the 4 channel amp and subs if you ever want them.
think the new alpine 9835 can drive some componets adequataley, untill i decide to rewire the car for an amp?
