Has anyone tried this kit yet? They sell an HID kit for close to half of Saleen's version. Granted, this one doesn't come with the whole headlight assembly but I wanted to know if anyone has tried it. It's worth about $400 in savings. thanks, LB
I guess this wasn't really worth asking about. From what I read, the 08 Stang will have HID's stock so I can get my buddy to order a set for me and I'll have those at cost anyway.... Thanks for looking though. LB
i put HID's(different brand)on my ride, you have to run relay's and fuse holder's per light bulb and straight from the battery...if they say plug and play they are lying! the mothers are bright as hell, especially w/ our big round headlights! you can see the inside of the car in front of you! i'm running 8000k's. people will high beam you thinking you have your high beams on.
BREDn07, I have an 06 GT. I also have a set of bi-xenon HID lights, also 8000K. I have not installed them yet on the Mustang but I have a set on my F-150 HD truck. There is a very large relay with a direct battery connection supplying the voltage to the two ballasts with a 20A fuse on each. It only uses a connection to the bulb socket for a signal that the lights are on and if the hi beams are on. The guys at Ford did bot know the specifics of my setup but told me that the light controller would freak out with HID's. The setup only hooks up to one bulb socket. It gets all the information from one and the other is not needed. I am guessing that this setup would be similar to what you are describing. From your experience, do you think that this will work? Have you had any problems with your setup? The filaments on the factory bulb look the same size. Do the factory lights use dual elements for hi beam? One more. Have tou had any problems with the inside of the headlight reflective surface melting or burning or getting discolored? I have heard this elsewhere. Here is a link to the set I have. mickey... i haven't had any problems with the set i have, and the headlamps have not been affected by the bulbs, the one i ordered hi/low in one bulb, i did not hook up my high beams, i don't need them because the lows are so bright i'm helping the car in front of me to see what's in front of him, that's how bright they are... company's haven't figure out a truly plug-n-play kit yet...so i had to run a fuse holder and a seperate relay for mine, a stereo shop did mine. try talking to your local stereo shop...good luck
I have the Saleen HID kit and this is how they are hooked up. The signal from the one headlight is used to trigger either the low or high beam relay. It functions perfectly with the Saleen setup even with my Canadian Daytime Running Lights.
Thanks for the reply. I feel a little better knowing I am following someones steps and not breaking new ground. As a side note, I was thinking of removing the headlights to get lots of room for the ballasts. I have found places I can install them from underneath, but holy moly, it looks like like you have to remove the bumper to remove the headlights. Is that right? Thump_rrr, you are turning those times with what type of blower and how much boost. 11.4 looks great to me, good going.....
Headlight housings for HID's are designed differently than housings for standard bulbs. This is to prevent the blinding effect to oncoming drivers. Look at a car with factory HID's and you will see that the reflector inside the housing aims the light low and wide. Standard housings allow the light to be aimed higher. That's the reason when you put HID's in standard housings you have guys like BREDn07 saying "you can see the inside of the car in front of you!" That isn't a good thing.
Factory HIDs blind people all the same. Ever get in front of a new Mercedes, BMW, or Audi in traffic? Heck, halogens on pickup trucks and SUVs will blind occupants of smaller cars.
I really like the look of these kits. I am curious, other kits talk about the need to upgrade relays or the headlights will "strobe". I would also like to hear a "voice of experience" here.
+1 i had that kit on my 240 and it was real easy to install. Thing is you gotta remember that HID bulbs in non HID housings are illegal and will cause glare to oncoming drivers. I'll wait for some 08's to hit the junkyard for some legit housings this time around that'll save me some serious cash.
