Hey guys, I might be needed to paint my UPR midpipe I'm getting to prevent rust . However I was wondering if there was a paint that could handle the heat it might encounter. I mean spray paint cans from Autozone or the like preferably. I know there is an engine paint, but does anybody know if there is a primer and clearcoat that can take the heat? Thanks
It is an exhaust pipe, give me a break. Why not detail the car inside and out instead of wasting you time painting your exhaust?
I painted my old Flowmasters with this kind of paint.. http://www.krylon.com/main/product_...lid=12&productid=1758&content=product_details U can get it at home depot, lowes, or probly even walmart.
Most exhaust components made from mild steel rust from the inside out so painting them don't do jack squat. The corrosive exhaust gases are what eats the metal up... U.M.
:Word: if you REALLY want to keep it from rusting, theres always Jet-Hot inside and out, but for the price it would cost you, you could sell the UPR and get a Stainless Piece from VRS.
It did not chip off? I am curious because I need to paint my truck's exhaust with some different paint than I already have. The paint I used was high temp 'engine paint' but it is chipping of course. If that grill paint does not chip I will buys some!
I dont know...I actually havnt put the mufflers back on since I painted them..I've dropped them a couple of times, and it didnt do anything
It is, but I don't mind spending a little time and a few dollars to prevent some rust, and if it looks good my car is already detailed, lol. I know I won't stop that particular rust, and I understand also it's the main rust, but if I can stop it on the outside it's got to help a little. I'm also sort of a paint guy, thats probably why this seems overdone to most, maybe it is. I know of a couple good ways I could paint the pipe with high temp paint and clearcoats to make it look really good. But that's expensive and time wasting, for it is as mentioned, just a pipe. I don't know much about spray paints and making a trip out to autozone or advanced is very long for me, so I was wondering if anybody else knew.
i used vht flame paint on my long tubes since i got the reg macs. Its been 3 months and they are still black like i painted them if that helps. No matter what you use for exhaust paint your going to have to touch it up from time to time becuase well they just dont last
i believe auto zone sells it. I got it from a local parts store. You can also use copper gasket sealer spray. It will make it look gold/ bronze until it heats up and bakes and turns silver. A lot of guys have said that lastest the longest by far.
