i am going to be painting my car soon and some of the chrome trime around the doors is dented so i am wantiong to get new ones, but i am wondering how i go about changing that. is it something simple i can do after i paint or how does this work?
If you are going to go to the trouble of a new paint job ,then why not go to the trouble of stripping it of all the trim to get a much better job.? Good luck finding new stuff. I fixed minor dents on mine ,sanded it and painted it with fusion satin gloss black paint. Came out very well also.
how do i get these bad boys off all the windows? i mean the side windows seem like they wouldnt be hard, but how do i do the front/rear windows
The side window trims are screwed on (QTR> windows) you will need to strip out interior panels and door panels to get to them. The front windshield and rear window mouldings are held on by simple clips snapped over a pin. Use a regular putty knife (with tape on the end to prevent scratching). gently slide under moulding and lift up,taking care ,NOT to pry against windshield. If the edge of windshield is chipped or nicked it will crack immediately. The trim may be stubborn and sticky from the windshield sealant, but once you get that first piece off you will see how easy it is. The clips can be bought new at auto parts stores. Some get rusty and break when you take em' off.
Here's the tool for removing the front and rear window trim properly. these can usually be had for between $5-$10 and well worth it. Every now and again I find them at tool dealers at swapmeets for around $3 new. It's KD Tools 2038
Window trim As far as the dents go, I have the same problem. Seems my car was damaged in a previous hailstorm before I got it. All of the metal trim has small dents in it. I plan to remove the trim and use a small hobby anvil I have with a small pick hammer to tap the dents out. Any remaining inperfections can be filled with certain body fillers, like the new finishing putties that are made for extreme adhesion. You can find this putty at auotmotive paint stores.
me likey that one better- i have a set that actually has one that has a left and right facing hook seperate- kind off a PITA to switch back and forth all the time
