Ok. I confess. I am 46 stinking years old ( could be wrong but I am not going to count). I have owned almost every car I want to own...within reason. EXCEPT, a Pantera. So, I continue to search for a pre L model Pantera with low miles and the silly problems associated with these cars.....think your S351 has problems? Don't turn left at high speeds in an original Pantera ( maybe left..maybe right, I forget...after all I am 46!). If you do...the carb starves...and the car will absolutely stumble. Pre L cars ( L for Luxury...read DETUNED) are the cats meow. L cars are ......nice but less exciting. Ugly bumpers! So, I am surfing E bay after cleaning up my post hurricane yard....and I see this auction. OK, I no longer feel bad about the mess ( I now realize that it is not messy) in my garage...nor any thing else about my LIFE. Actually both my boys helped a ton. One watned a ride to a horrow house and the other wah=nted to borrow 1995 #111 for the evening...done on both accounts. Good help is darn hard to find post hurricane! Pls check out this auction. For those of you near my age....or in my sphere.....or near my Karma.....hold on to your hats. Check out the Bronco on the left.....I am HORRIFIED!!!!! He actually has TWO garages and they both are a complete .....WRECK! He needs to give those wheels away...if anyone will take them. I know no one that will have those wheels anywhere near a car they love! Wait, I am going to HURL!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Othe...Z6472QQitemZ4585472109QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Not for the weak of heart! Dan Marcus. He needs to be on the prayer list!
Ouch! What a project. Where would you find the parts to fix the front? I once considered buying one since I have never had one. I looked at a nice one in Atlanta a few years ago. Zero rust but, the interior and running gear needed to be gone through. The guy wanted $20,000 for it about 4 years ago.
I've always wanted a Pantera, too. While other guys were drooling over the lastest plastic Chebbie; e.g. Corvette, I was lusting after a deTomaso Pantera, preferrably the 'L' model. Personally I prefer the rubber front bumper over the two small chrome bumperettes as it gives the front end a more finished appearance. Unfortunately trying to locate an original, low mile, umolested Pantera with all the factory updates is almost impossible. Those that are out there command a premium because so many have been ravaged by rust or their owners have installed all sorts of questionable modifications, such as the one in this eBay link. These vehicles are fright pigs & should be avoided as the new owner will ultimately spend much more than it would be worth trying to correct everything that the previous owner(s) have attempted to do to personalize it. Years ago I saw a blue Pantera for sale that just didn't sit quite right. The rear end had an odd hump in it that immediately caught my attention. Upon inspecting the engine bay, it was obvious that the car had somehow broken in half, either from rust, an accident, abuse or all of the above. The selling owner made a typical backyard, shadetree mechanic attempt to piece the monocoque back together as there was a spiderweb of welds in the engine bay area. I don't remember what was the asking price, but IMHO anything would have been too much for such a cobbled together piece of crap.
I'll add it to the prayer list. Funny, I too would love to have a clean as un molested Pantera I could find but gave up years ago. Roberts friend Ben has one and guess what kind of wheels she is wearing??? 18x9 and 18x10 Speedlines!
We're actually near completion on a second set of wheels for that car: We already have a complete set of Speedline Magnesium for the street, Still need one 18" x 10" rear Saleen Alloy to complete the "track" set .....and she sure looks pretty with those Speedlines on there
