Has anyone checked out or ever noticed a big six(4.9L) in a Mustang II? I've heard the later Mustang II came from the factory with a 302. I would really like the 300-6 but if the smaller sixes(240/250) would fit then I suppose it's not much of a choice. The biggest thing is I just like how the engines run and I'm use-to working on them a bit. I'm unsure of the year, but I might get a mustang that just needs some care, that and some new doors, windshield, motor, trans, maybe a hood too it is pretty stripped down though, someone was trying to restore it then stopped, but the body and I think the frame are painted. EDIT: It's between a '70 and '78 Mustang, but the engine bay is too small for a 351w and supposedly came stock with a 302.
Get us the VIN number from the dash plate visable through the windshield and we'll tell you exactly what you have. The Mustang II engine compartment is too short to comfortably fit a 300 straight 6, although I've see a picture of a 200 installed. Only the '69-'73 Mustangs came from the factory with a 351, but all other models can fit one in the engine bay (including the MII) with a bit of exhaust work. I know that they are drag-raced with some success, but I've never really seen the I-6 as built in the US as much of a performance engine. Other than the OHC Pontiac I-6 from 1969, all others have had the intake and exhaust on the same side which severely reduces airflow. The Aussies used the Ford I-6 a lot more though and even have an aluminum crossflow head for the 250. The Germans and Japanese got their I-6's right with OHC and DOHC heads. Just my opinion though... If your VIN shows a Mustang II, I'll dig out my pic of a straight 6 in a II and post it so you can see what it would look like.
