How should I tune my car as far as timing and a/f ratio. I have never changed the timing before and I can not see the number on my dampner. I have just installed a Granitelli MAF along with 30lb injectors. When I drive first gear is kinda ok but not the same as it was. Some times it stumbles and does not want to move and then all the sudden kicks in. When I step on it (WOT) in second gear it just kinda want to hesitate. It basically want to do this all the all the gears. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I should be doing to get it set up right. I am not sure what my fp is set at. I will have to find out. Also the timing has never been changed as far as I know. I tried to check the timing today but I can not see the numbers on the dampner. I have a timing light that I am using.
Try taking some chaulk or paint with a little brush and mark the ball. it will make it a TON easier to see and read. The best way to mark it is to do it from under the car IMHO and rotate the engine so the marks are able to be seen/marked from that location. you may want to lower the FP with an adj. FPregulator to help offset the 30's...but the best way would be to get a tune.
Well sir the quick and dirty answer is... you need a tune. You got some neat hot rod parts in there that aren't liking the stock tune. The maf and 30 pound squirters will not run right on a stock GT calibration. You're air, fuel, and spark tables aren't optimized at all. You're going to need to adjust the MAF transfer function to get a/f where it should. Injector breakpoints and slopes are also off. BTW, I'd be very careful running any N2O with the stock tune. Else you'll blow the intake and me and the mad doctor will have to put it back together. Adam
I ran 125shot on the stock tune...with 10* base timing. I didnt have a problem for ALONG time...I ended up with a "over rev" issue one time and at 110k miles my rings were shot. MANY of my friends have run 125-150 shots on a untuned eec well into 180k+ stock shortblocks. Just take out the timing at the dizzy (mostly if you run 14* instead of 10), run enough fuel, and run the safty stuff. The slow adv. rate of the stock tune is actually a good thing as it helps with low rpm power making so you can leave better and build power instead of just blowing the tires away with the onset of n2o. With your curr. issues, I would not sug. hitting the bottle until your sorted out N/A as with the mods you have things out of wack...esp. not knowing what your timing is at.
Thanks for the response Thanks guys for the great suggestions. I have tried to get a tune but every place that I go, (that one time was open) is now closed. I guess that I just need to find some place in the Reading, PA area that does that. Today I took of the MAF and replaced it with the stock piece just to make sure that there was not any other underlying problems and the car ran pretty good even with the 30lb injectors. So it is definatly a tune problem. I was thinking about returning the part because of the trouble that I have had with it so far. At first I could not hook it up to my car because it was to big and would not fit any of the stock stuff. Then when i did get it installed it had a bad chip in it and they said it was a defect and they sent me another one. Now I can not get it to run right. I guess now I will do alittle more research since you are telling me that stock computer can not keep up with it. The tech people at Granitelli said to just drive it for 20 miles and let the computer relearn the info. I don't have the NOS running right now because I didn't like the switch that I had so I got a new one from Steeda and have not installed it yet. Also i would def not run it when I do not have the car running right. Thanks gents
I have called Granitelli and they say that it should work without any problems like I am having. They are going to send me another one because they said that they have been having issues with the batch that I got. So I guess we will see!
just make sure to disconnect the battery for about 30 minutes when you swap it so the computer can learn more quickly about the new setup.
