I was wondering how much trouble it is to install a set of GT driving lights into my 2000 V6 Coupe's front fascia. Is the wiring already in place in the car from behind the fascia area to the console? If so, I was looking at buying a set of used lights with their mounting brackets, and a factory rocker switch to put in the console. If there is no wiring already factory installed, then I probably will not attempt it. Unless it's easier to install the wiring than it sounds...
There is no wiring for the foglights. It must all be ran from scratch. But it is a very simple thing to do. Check pep boy's or a place like that. They sell foglight wiring kits that have relays, switches(though I'd get a stock one), etc... It's a very simple and easy process do to. Check 3.8mustang.com or v6stangs.com in their tech section for articles on how to do this.
I wanted to do the same thing. I couldn't find any unused plugs in front, and there wasn't any voltage present at the plug in the console. The factory system uses a relay too, and there doesn't appear to be wiring under the missing relay, so maybe Ford doesn't use the same wiring harness for both V6s and GTs. I ended up buying aftermarket driving lights, since they're aluminum and glass, instead of plastic like the OEM lights. Going that route, you would have to fabricate a bracket to mount them to the factory mounting holes- don't just drill a hole in the bumper cover. If you do, the lights will wobble up and down as you drive. I ended up mounting mine by adding aluminum bars that lead back to the radiator support. They're probably more rigid than the factory lights. They don't shake at all! The installation isn't that hard. The hardest part is getting the single power lead between the relay and the switch through the firewall. There's a wiring harness coming through the firewall under the master cylinder, and it's sealed with a large rubber grommet. It's easy to make a small incision in the rubber and feed the wire through. If you don't want to pay Ford $30 for a factory fog light switch, Radio Shack carries this rocker switch with a red LED that fits in the console with a few seconds of trimming. It's $4 and it looks stock. Good luck!
It can be done, and really its rather simple. I'd recommend buying a kit that has all the parts included. You can probably find it on http://www.dallasmustang.com I'm sure they have some. If not go to pepboys, autozone, or any other place and i'm sure they'd be glad to help you.
Easy? You have to wire into the fuse box or use an independant fuse box, then run your relays through the firewall/console to where you want the switches. How is it "easy"?
Actually you don't have to go near the fusebox! You use the relay that comes with the lights, and a wire that connects directly to the positive post of the battery, which has its own in-line fuse. The control wire is tapped into any +12V source under the dash that is hot only when the ignition is on (so you can't leave the lights on by accident). I tapped into one of the power leads for the stereo, which is already fused and you're only closing a relay, so there isn't any concern about overloading the circuit.

the install is pretty darn simple actually. The way I did mine was pretty direct, I set it up so that anytime the parking lights are on the fog lights would come on. I also had a switch to turn them on and off. I got a relay and red/black wire along with the slide on connectors to attatch the wires to the relay. I got power to turn the relay on from the parking lights power wire then just run a power wire from the battery to the relay then down to the fog lights, I of coruse had an inline fuse along with grounding everything. It works great.
Just a quick question for you gurus: I just checked my 94 V6 an it does in fact have all wiring needed too hook up fog lights. So I ordered a kit that comes with both lights, mounting brackets, a relay, and a stock switch. Im guessing I will need to get bolts, but thats not hard to find. Will I even need the relay if the wires are already there. Someone told me that since the wiring is there, they will just go on automaticaly when the headlights go on. Is that true? Thanks guys!
the wiring should be there until 96 cars then .... they stoped but its really not that complicated, im fixing to rewire my whole system, a deer cam by and riped out my fog light and what not.
