like the title says, if someone installs the trac-lok without screwing with the ring and pinion gears would it be just a matter of bolting it all up together again? im not sure how idential the ford parts are but on my nissan i threw a brand new diff in a pumpkin and just reused the old bearings and everything. worked like a charm and i've put thousands of miles on it. i just saw how cheap the ford racing diff was and figured why the hell not throw it in the car it can't screw with the backlash and all that. thanks.
Doubtful, since the process of removing the ring gear from the stock differential and re-installing it on a T-Lok will change the alignment somewhat relative to the pinion.
not worth doing unless you put gears in it at the same time and like the other guy posted , the housings maybe slightly off from each other so you need to check the backlash regardless , and I would never put a new carrier in without putting new bearings on it
I would have to disagree about changing gears also. If you don't plan on doing a lot of racing why put in lower gears? I put a t-lock in and kept the stock gears. The car hooks up great now and still gets decent mileage. We used the stock shims and put them back where they were and it lined up perfectly with the correct back lash but that's not always going to happen so you should take it to a shop for the install and you decide what gearing you want.
