i dont know what the deal is. everyone says the same thing "IPODS are so easy to figure out, thats why they dont come with directions". whatever. so i just bought one and installed the itunes CD that comes with it. well it didnt work the first time. so i uninstalled and reinstalled it....3 times. on the 4th try it finally worked. so then i connected the IPOD like it said to do. my friend who has one said it would take a while the first time so it could "sync up" or somthing like that. well here it is almost 6 hours later and the IPOD is still "syncing up". it is flashing DO NOT DISCONNECT on the display. i have no clue if this is normal, im retarded when it comes to computers. someone help.

since you don't have anything on it yet, just unplug it.

download itune from the website, don't install it off the cd.

Make sure you download iTunes 7 and QuickTime go here and you can get both as an installer package. Make sure the iPod is disconnected when you install the software. Then restart and then connect it again.

my old laptop didn't have a high speed usb port either...it made no difference. Download itunes then load your music/cd's into it then hook up the ipod to the computer and it will locate your ipod and install everything.

iPods suck ass. My shuffle died after a few months, returned it for a Creative Zen Nano. Twice the memory, +lcd dispay, fm radio, voice recorder, line in, ONE dollar more. Plus it runs on AAA's that last forever so I dont gotta stick it in my computer all the time.

I got chu mang. I have a 4th Gen brick and love it but had some issues in the beginning. Here's an excellent forum that should answer any questions you have regarding Ipods. :)

make sure you also dont have it set up so it can accept notes from the computer. if its setup for notes then it will always flash this until that feature is disabled

I've never had problems with my 3rd Gen. 10GB.

But I run OSX so XP might not work so well...
