Im kinda looking for a another car cause my car needs paint and tranny is in need to be replaced. So I was going to look for a beater till I got my car working again. I found this, and saw it has a 2.3. http://www.automart.com/vehicledetail/adid-6319459 Can I do a 2.3 turbo swap on it? How much power can I make from that? I think the old rangers had 2.3s too, can I do the turbo swap on that too?
Tis the same motor.. 2.3T came in SVO's, Merkur XR4TI's, Thunderbird Turbocoupes, and Mustang Turbo GT's. You can put them in a mustang, ranger, or just about anything you want. the Turbo's have better pistons, and heads, but its more or less the same. Stock bottoms good for 600+ hp. Dr.
woooohhhh, STOP that is a Ford Tempo. it has an escort motor in it. a CVH which are no where the same. now if you wanted to do a swap into that one I would convert it to rear drive and dry sump the 2.3 turbo for ground clearance. but no they are not the same. unfortunately I know these CVH motors all to well.capable of about 300hp but needing rebuilds about every year.
As stated, the tempo is not the same engine, though the ranger is. I have seen some 2.3T's dropped into tempos...it's not a bolt in affair though. There is a guy on TF with a fwd tempo and a 2.3T running low 12's.
So the turbo swap can be done on some rangers? Which ones and what does the typical turbo cost for the 2.3.
i musta been drinkin' or something when i posted that.. I swear i saw a 2.3 Stang. No.. tempos are NOT the same... just ignore my previous post. Dr.
Any ranger "can" be done, the easiest being the ones with the old 2.3...not the new DOHC 2.3. I believe this was from 87-95 or so. Typical cost is 500-1000 bux.
It's a duratec 2.3...not the same as our 2.3 (the DOHC). I bet 200 people have done turbo rangers...maybe more. Check ranger powersports forums.
Has anybody here ever seen the pics of jasons tempo??? Amanda and I saw it this summer at carlisle. He had to notch part of the frame to get it to fit....but man its running quick times.
