I am thinking about installing a 1.7 KB with a 75mm TB and 90mm MAF on my Salleen. My car just isn't fast enough. I have become bored with power(or lack there of) and need some extra kick. My wife's 240hp Grand Prix GTP feels like it pulls as hard as my Saleen. I was hoping some of you guys could answer a few ?s for me about the kit.

    1. For those of you who had a S/C Saleen to start with, did you keep your Saleen heat exchanger and where there any issues with that?
    2. Are the 36lb injectors and BAP that come with the kit adequete, because I see alot of guys have 42s and a larger fuel pump?
    3. Did you have them burn you a new tune or buy a HH tuner and have a dyno tune done and why?
    4. If I do the HH tuner and dyno tune after install, will I have any issues making the 30 mile drive to the dyno shop?
    5. Finally, will it be worth the $5k to go from a series II to a KB?

    Thanks!

It's very well worth it.I kept the saleen heat exchanger, resevoir and intercooler pump.I think the KB is coming with 42lb inj atleast that is what they sent me.I don't trust the boosta pump completely so I upgraded to the cobra tank/pumps at the same time. It's definetly plenty of blower for a stock engine. The big tube kit is better than stock but I don't think it was worth the $1100.If you have plans of building the bottom end go with the 2.2.I would have gone that route had I known you can run the 2.2 with a 4" pulley @8lbs boost untill the bottom end is built.

Did you install the kit yourself, and what kind of numbers did you get on the dyno?

No I had it installed and tuned by AFP in Wa.My #s were low at 375/386 but it is a big diference from the 330/345 I was putting down before. The throttle response is awesome and it's plenty of power for the street.I am planning on having the bassani mid-length headers and x-pipe installed mid February to see if I can get over 400/400.I don't need it but it's addicting ya know.It all started with that $20 shift knob on ebay.:D

I went from 278/310 with stock eaton to 433/418 after the 9psi KB swapp.
Same, I kept the saleen heat exchanger, pump and tank.

I havent got my car back from the shop yet but I already know that the money was well spent going from the SII to the KB 1.7...
I just got the 1.7 a couple of weeks ago and it came with 36's but I already have 42s... But the 36s will be enough for the power you will see...
You will need a new fuel pump either the Focus or the Cobra Pumps...If you plan on making more than 440whp then go with the Cobra pumps...

Nice numbers! Did you use 36s and BAP or did you get 42s and larger pump. Also did you use the KB tune or a custom one on the dyno.

Mine came with 36 lbs injectors and BAP. And we used the KB tune. These numbers are from the 1st dyno pull right after installation.

    1. i would keep the Saleen HE, it's a lot better than what KB gives you. shouldn't be any issues.

    2. yes, they are adequate. unless you like hitting boost below a quarter of a tank you should be fine. get cobra tank and pumps for boost on low fuel.

    3. computer was reflashed, only thing you can do for Saleens. dyno tune was done to check a/f and get the numbers to the tires. it's well worth the money to make sure everything is right under WOT conditions.

    4. i wouldn't drive far on a car with no tune.

    5. every penny

Damn, my car makes almost that power NA with stock heads and cams. Makes me glad I didnt spend the extra money on a S/C'd one.

question for all you KB guys pushing over 400HP. Do you still have all stock internals? I thought that you didnt want to do anything over 400 rwhp on stock internal because the rods cant handle it. Anybody have any problems?

    True.

My Auto was 291rwhp and 365rwtq stock.

Now, 318rwhp and 424rwtq, still with the Saleen Series I.

If you use 21% as the driveline loss for the automatic trans, that is about 400hp and 525tq :D

that's a general rule of foot, but it's all in the tune. keep the boost and the timing down and you'll have safer power. i'm at 403/421 with no problems. had the KB for a year and a half....
