Just curious if this is even possible to take a Mach 1000 system and install it in my '03 that is just plane jane sound system. I am wanting to keep everything looking stock is all but w/ better sound. TIA! B.
If you are just looking for better sound, and you want it to look stock, just keep the main head unit, and replace the stock speakers in the doors with some infinity kapaa series speakers. That, along with some dynamat around the speakers, will make the music a lot more clear, and will also make it so you can turn it up louder without as much distortion. If you want to take it a step further, you could get a small self powered subwoofer, like a bazooka tube, or infinity basslink, they dont take up much room and they will make the low frequencies that your door speakers cant make.
If you want to have the Mach 460/1000 tweeter pod in the top corner of your door, then you'll need new door panels. The non-Mach door panels don't have the opening in them to accept the tweeter pod. I don't know what door panels cost, but it'd probably be around at least $300 a piece through Ford. Actually, a more realistic answer would be $450 per panel, cuz I've bought plenty of new interior parts and they aren't exactly cheap. But, that only matters if you want to put the tweeters in the tweeter pod. You can always just hide them behind your door panel somewhere and secure them in place.
Well I figured I could get the parts used from somewhere like Mustang Parts Specialties. I'm really not interested in aftermarket stuff, I just wish I had bought the car w/ the 1000. I am sure I can get all of the hardware to do the swap the big question is the electrical are there plugs already inplace to install this or do I have to get a whole wiring harness? I want it to be as factory as possible. B.
You probably would need new wiring. I know when i bought aftermarket stuff for my mustang I had to have all new wiring put in for the door/rear speakers. The guy at the shop said this wouldn't of happened if I didn't have Mach 460, so I'm sure the wiring is different. I don't how many amps your stock system has, but I had an amp up front under the cd player and then two in the back on the rear deck. Honestly, you'll pay alot of money to put a Mach 460 or 1000 in, better off getting aftermarket---it'll be cheaper and it'll sound better.
The harness from the deck to the amp rack in the trunk is the same. You'll need the amps(4) and the rack they bolt to,and the subs. The other difference is after the amps they use different plugs due to the difference in subwoofer setups.
