Hey, I am having serious trouble installing my new aftermarket stereo into my mustang. I know that the aftermarket stereos are not supposed to be compatable with the mach 460 system but I have previously installed two different aftermarket stereos (all pioneer) with no trouble. I had my last stereo stolen last month and the thief took the wiring harness also. Now I went out and bought a new harness but I know it is the wrong one (the one I bought is labled ford premium sound system). When I installed it the stereo worked but absolutely no sound. I also hooked a speaker i had laying around to the radio and it worked fine. Is there any other alternatives rather than rewire the whole system? I found a wiring harness for mach 460 systems which plugs into the pre-outs in the back of the deck but it is labled 1999-2000 mustangs and I have a 1996. Any help you could give would be great. Thanks. Zach '96 GT
Mach 460 Problems?!?!?!? NO WAY, those never happen Sorry lol, i just thought sarcasm was necessary since i'm about to KILL my Mach460. Have an aftermarket Alpine head unit and it was hardwired in and i have no bass. Go to crutchfield and see if maybe you need to buy the Amplifier Adapter for 39.99, cuz thats what i'm thinking of buying, i just don't know if i'll be able to install it since the crap is hardwired. BTW, when you installed those other head units did your amps still work and did you have any bass?
I had a local audio shop put in my alpine headunit with the mach 460 and the only problem i have now is the speakers get alot of bass so i cant turn it up loud enough to really hear the subs, have to stop at 13 with the alpine before the speakers start to pop
Personally, I would go by a local shop and ask them what harness they use. The local shop here is Go-Ho Auto Audio and they actually installed my new head unit recently and it works fine with the rest of the Mach460. However, I know they had to order a special harness they do not normally carry. They hate Mach460s also, but it works. Also, FYI I had all of my bass go out and it was because one of my amps in the rear went bad(driver's side). I popped in another one and it works again.
ok head units are iffy we all know that but how about the speakers....? any issues with the speakers?
I'll find out today, I need to go to the stereo place and have my Alpine put in my Mach 460 in my 04 convertible. I always put a powered Bazooka Tube behind the pass. seat because convertibles have bad bass and Alpines have separate preouts for it. I usually put 4 Alpine 5-7 in but I'm going to just use the factory speakers this time.
