I'm looking at getting the Magnaflow catback for my 03 cobra. What does it sound like from inside at about 70-80mph.? Is it to loud? Can you hear the stereo? How's loud is it compared to the stock at this speed? I drive highway 90% of the time, so I want to make sure I'll be happy.

    Thanks

I have Magnaflow on mine. I took my first long trip with the wife (would complain if it was loud) and it was perfectly quiet at 80 in 6th gear. Go for it man, they sound great.....

I drive a lot of highway miles too. I feel your concern so here's a few bits.

According to mustangexhaust.com, chambered mufflers like Flowmaster produce a deeper classic American car sound. The straight through mufflers like Magnaflow produce a raspier Ferrari like sound.

A guy who owns an auto shop told me that the deeper the sound, the more you'll hear it inside the car. The higher pitched sound will be more towards the rear end of the car.

I just got the MAC cat-back system. It has a really deep sound. At around 70 mph or 2100 RPM, it sounds and feels like the center of the sound mass is in my back seat. At 75+ it sounds just a tad louder than the stock pipes. Anything below 1800 RPM is fairly quiet. Nothing to worry about. As you go past 2000 RPM, the sound tends to shift forward and it gets louder inside the car. Above 2400, the sound shifts to the outside again. There's a certain frequency that seems to be louder. Just bump your cruise control up or down and enjoy the drive.

I think it depends on what gear you are in. If in 6'th, the sound is not bad at all. You can hear it, but is not obnoxious. Drop it down a gear, and , well I guess you get the picture. As far as being louder than stock, considering the
stock exhaust makes no noise at all, there is a big difference. :D

    Magnaflow EXHAUST

Just installed magnaflow "X" pipe and a CAT Back and it's GREAT! No problem with sound and it isn't very loud at all. No problem at cruise and you can talk and hear the radio fine.

It isn't loud at all with stock h pipe... switch to catless mid pipe like the bassani offroad x and it is very loud at WOT.. but even then... just cruizing along is nice and enjoyable...

    Loud? Hmmm...

Sound is a very subjective matter; what is "loud" to one person may seem "quiet" to another. I suggest you find a fellow 03/04 cobra owner who has the exahust combo you are interested in, and go for a short drive together - listen to it in person, it's the best way!

Further, the Magnaflow mufflers are on the "quieter" end of the spectrum IMHO, especially if you still run the factory H pipe with the Magnaflow catback (or even a catted aftermarket midpipe - it's still relatively tame). Again, this is all subjective, but I think most would agree.

I don't think adding the Magnaflow catback to your cobra would make things "too loud." Of course, it's all relative.
Additionally, all catback systems will "drone" if you hold the throttle at that "sweet spot." I'm not an expert in harmonics or resonance, but we can tell when we are droning along at that certain speed/RPM, right? LOL
Generally speaking, straight through muffler designs (such as Magnaflow or Bassani) tend to drone less than their chambered muffler counterparts (such as MAC or Flowmaster).

    G'luck!

The maggies on the 04 are very quiet inside. But I am coming from a full exhausted 98 with longtubes and no cats.

mine is loud as hell but I've got longtubes and a catless X on her. On the highway it doesn't "drone", but the second I get on it its loud. I like magnaflow!

They are not much louder than stock everywhere. Deeper, but not louder. i do not think that anyone would notice if they did not see the different tail pipes.

I would have to disagree with that. Stock exhaust makes barely a peep at idle and just regular cruise, get on it and it perks up a little. Magnaflow full
exhaust ( catted x and catback ) has nice deep burble at idle and cruise, get
on it and it screams. Absolutely can tell the difference between stock and
Magnaflow, and not just because of the pipes. :nonono:
