alright lets get started here i have a 1994 mustang 3.8 liter well when ever i take off my car has no power at all and when i reve up the engine its sluggesh and then gets power but sometimes backfires threw the air filter i have changed spark plugs spark plug wires air filter fuel filter egr valve about to change the fuel pump is there anything anyone might think of that is easy to change before i have to drop my tank that might be the problem thanks everyone
Were the headgaskets ever replaced? I know my '90 t-bird was sluggish when I blew the headgaskets with coolant getting in the cylinders and all. Any white smoke coming out the back or large amuonts of condensation?
Exhaust, a full cat-back exhaust will help out a lot, change the oil, have a tune up done, belts, etc. just read the manual for what needs to be done at what mileage
there is a little smoke coming out alot of condensation with looks to be a little oil in it but im not to positive.... it was a full cat back exhaust changed
It is definitely the head gasket...I had the same problem a few months ago with my 95 and it took me awhile to save up the money and then the guy that did it took his time...and I actually just got it back Monday...if you know someone who works on cars, ask them first, cause it is expensive...also, look into a new engine...it might be the better route.
it sounds like a timeing issue, if its backfireing thu the air filter it means your intake valve is not closed during the power stroke of the engine. its hard to say with out hearing or driving it my self. but the sluggesh then gets power also points to a timeing problem.
