    Hi all,
Bought a 98 Cobra last week and want to change the oil since Im not sure when it was done last. My question is if its ok to run Mobil 1 Synthetic oil even if conventional oil was used before? Car has 52,000 miles on it. Thanks in advance!

That's an Urban Legend. You can switch to synthetic anytime after break-in.

never heard that before. most guys i know with cobras switch to synthetic after break in. none of them, including myself, have had any problems and all of us spend a lot of time flogging our cars at the track and strip. do you have any idea why you shouldn't switch to synthetic?

    :stupid:

I switched to Mobil 1 at 18k miles and I'm approaching 31k miles now and no problems whatsoever. Up to that point, I had been using Motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend.

You can even mix the two oils together your not going to hurt anything. I use royal purple. Its cheaper than mobil one.

Run the Mobil 1. You will have no problems. My '99 has never seen anything but Mobil 1. My '03 started out on Royal Purple, went to Penzoil synth, but I have switched to Mobil 1. Royal Purple isn't available in Toledo that I can find and Mobil 1 is at every parts store. The RP was good stuff, though.

Almost everything that you hear about when to add and when you can't add and mileage concerns are hogwash. Add the synth, your engine will thank you for it.
