I have been searching this forum and others for a while looking for a correction to my problem. When slowing down from speed, whether it be street or highway speeds, there's a momentary difficulty in the steering to overcome when turning the wheel. I'm not a 100% sure but it seems worse when the front end has a bit of dive when braking and downshifting. The problem is not there when driving through parking lots etc so i don't think its a pump problem, i have purged the pump of any air and removed all my underdrive pulleys. My car didn't do this before the upgrades so here is a list of what i just did, all at the same time so its hard to pinpoint what part may have caused this: Eibach Pro Kit, Steeda Bumpsteer, Alum Offset Rack Bushings, Energy Suspension End Links, Sway Bar Bushings, Steeda X2 Balljoint, 4 Bolt Caster Camber Plates, Offset Control Arm Bushings, Energy Suspension Spring Isolators, KYB Adjustables, 13" Cobra Brakes and Boss 335's on a 245/30/20. I had an alignment and went with the recommended settings by Steeda for "General Street Use" About -1 Camber, 5.5 Caster and approx 3/32" Total Toe. The only thing that i have been able to come up with, I was thinking the pump didn't have enough with the underdrives on it which i corrected, is it seems they either didn't setup the bumpsteer right or i have to much caster. This is on a 95 GT, has anyone else run into this problem? I just got back to this forum after a long time away from my car, it sat doing nothing for the last 8 years hence the huge money spent this spring. The busted knuckles actually feel good, i think its pride.
Possible that your pump or rack is starting to go out and that the timing is just a coincidence. My 90 does that when I pull into parking spaces sometimes
I was thinking perhaps a new flaming river rack and steering shaft this winter if i couldnt cure the problem and since i'm getting a Procharger and will have to do some config changes to get it in i'll throw on a new pump too. I'm putting on a new front bumper and hood right now so once i'm done i'm going to take it in and do a bit of checking on the bumpsteer and take some caster out and see if it helps. I just figured it was in the setup since a week before the mods and wheels it was fine even with the underdrives but the moment im done the mods its a concern. Thanks for the response.
The more i drive this i dont think its the pump, it "appears" only the happen when turning left and the thing worked perfect before the upgrades. Only happens when slowing down and turning left. Weird!
Seems to be improving somewhat on its own. I re-read the instructions for my offset rack bushings and it said not to drop and twist the rack, which i did, because it can allow air into the system at the o-ringed hydraulic fitting and is difficult to purge. I had raised the front wheels and went lock to lock 20 times with the cap off with no resistance but once on the ground it had returned. Its only been improving slowly as i've been driving. Should i have not purged the air when i did the above if i did indeed get air past the hydraulic fitting? Bumpsteer and alignment are good and since its improving somewhat i dont think its in the setup. I'll just keep driving it and see before i go and blow money on a new pump and or rack.
