    Greetings,
    I own a '00 GT 'Vert (Auto)
Currently, it has around 52k miles on it.
I change the oil every 3-4k miles.
I also check fluids and rotate the tires on a regular schedule.

    My question?

How many miles were on your 'Stang before you had major problems with it.
Major problems such as major engine problems, or tranmission problems.
What's the most miles you placed on your Mustang before you traded it in, or sold it. Just wondering....

    IAC went out at 70k - $40
oxygen sensors got screwed up at 85k- replaced them all for about $100 i think
Got a custom Chip burnt to correct a/f ratio at 85k - A few hundred bucks but well worth it.
Clutch/throwout bearing at 88k miles - few hundred with install
needs new rotors all around and front pads probably pretty soon. I think almost 100k out of a set of rotors is pretty good.

Other than that nothing major (knock on wood) has gone wrong. My car just turned 93,000 miles this weekend. A 96 gt 5spd. I have tried selling her and no one could ever come up with what I was asking for it. Probably get $4,000 if I am lucky. So.... my plan is to run her into the ground and have some fun in the process. Gonna continue modding but nothing too crazy. Hope to get 200,000 miles out of her. Almost halfway there. 150,000 should be no problem in my opinion.

Rearend bearing went out at about 35000, under warranty. I have 45000 and have had no problems thus far. Replaced stock tires at 20000 and then replace the new ones at 43000.

As long as these cars are maintained properly with routine maintanence they are pretty reliable from what I've read and experienced. That's also with all the abuse they take over the years.

I would say that if you stick to your maintenance schedule , you shouldn't have to worry about major rngine problems for years (another 120k or so). You didn't say whether you change the fluid in the auto trans or not. Heat and old fluid is the killer of those.

Brakes/clutches/pumps/alternaotrs I consider wear/service items. Expensive, but not major.

What kind of driving do you do ? My first 50k or so was highway driving (100 mi. round trip commute), and the parts don't get stressed as much in that type of driving

You can also send a sample of your oil out and have it analyzed. They will tell you how many metallic particles are floating around. That will tell you the overall condition of your internals.

But to answer your question better, at some point the amount of $$$ you pour into keeping a used car running well doesn't make financial sense. For me , that point would be where the resale value of the car is at about 2k or so. YMMV.
