I took the "silencer" off of my air filter box and could actually tell
a differance in my N/A 2.3 '93 hatchback. I have read threads about
cutting the entire bottom off of the box...will that be power I can feel
    compaired to now?

You wouldn't be able to feel anything if you just cut the bottom of the box off...if you made a custom CAI with K&N filter, then you would probably feel a little more power.

before you cut up the box i would suggest getting some pvc an putting it in place of that stupid muffler thing they put in the way... if you take it off and look inside of it the opening that goes through there is only like 1.25" so even if you open up the bottom of the box there is still gonna be that major restriction upstream. essentially you would just be making your own cai (sort of).

what i was running when mine was NA was a K&N filter (panel style that fits in your air box) into a 3" PVC pipe then into the throttlebody, and also had the silencer removed... as far as power gains go i guess there was some (maybe 5) but the biggest difference i could tell was the sound it made, slightly louder, and better throttle response. i probably would have seen more of a gain if i had gotten a cone type filter, but oh well.

her some pics I think total with supplys 70.00 the most 95TB,pvc,supplys from lowes,Air cleaner from Auto zone And a flex Intake house of a 91' pontiac bonneville or what ever you can modify.
Plus an hour give or take. I have had no problem sucking up water runs alot better air flow wise seems a little something there!!!! But i also have a gutted upper and TB intake side has been matched to the TB.

I know she looks a little dirty been having crappy weather and can't get nothing done. Going to change tho rig up when i redo the motor. Really wanted to see the difference running it down and better.
The air below is colder then it coming throught the fender well I think!!
Like i said no water problems but i also have my front an inch lower so the bumper helps deflect alot of rain Just can't go through deep puddles..
    Hee Hee!!!!

really nice cai, if rain is an issue like here in Miami Florida , you can always take the pipe inside the fender , it'll just have to be a smaller filter to try and fit in there , but it looks cool too because there's a holoe on the side where the pipe fits in perfect ! :D either way nice job man !

3.5 inch tubing from a muffler shop looks a tad cleaner imo.
