Hi, I have a 2001 stock V6 mustang, and I'm getting kinda tired of the v6 engine sound. I'm checking into all the available options I have of being able to make it sound better (deeper and louder). I'm a college kid so I can't drop hundreds and hundreds of dollars, but spending up to $200-300 will be ok. I don't want an incredibly loud sound, but I'd like it stronger than my stock exhaust....louder, deeper, and more noticeable. Several very cost effective options have appeared over and over again, and I'd like to know your opinion: 1. A GT takeoff system. I think that's meant as a way to make a v6 sound more like a GT. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Can be purchased for $100 online (though I can't find where, I've only heard this), and installation another $100. Produces very cost effective, satisfying results according to the opinions of people who did it. 2. Removing my stock muffler. I've heard that this will automatically give my v6 more sound. However, will it sound good or bad? 3. Replacing my stock muffler with another muffler, such as Flowmaster 40 series...this particular model has been mentioned alot, but I cant find a sound clip of what it will sound like on a v6 with just that and not any other mods. 4. Getting a cold air intake. Also, how will gas mileage be affected by this? Thanks so much
...You're a newbie to this whole thing aren't you? First off, GT take off's are the factory exhaust from a 99-04 GT, they won't make your car sound exactly like a GT since 1. a GT is a V8 and 2. it has a more agressive style engine, etc. You can find them here www.gefracing.com or here www.v6mustangstuff.com and when/if you buy them aswell as any other exhaust you woun't have to replace your mufflers since they will already be in the new exhaust you just purchased. A intake will only make your car sound louder and deeper at higher rpm driving, 3.5 -5k rpm, it won't have any effect on the idleing sound of your car. gas millage wont be effected alot by this, maybe a difference of 2-4 mpg depending on your driving style. Exhaust and CAI won't effect your MPG much, just make it a bit better but I doubt you'd notice anything. As for your exhaust options, I love my Mac Catback duals and it was only $300 bucks. Easy install, something you could do yourself I'm sure. It's just a matter of taking off the old and putting on the new. I ordred mine from mustangwarehouse.com for 300 shipped. I would suggest that for sure.
