Well you may want to take the starter off and get it tested to be save also while at the shop getting that done ask about the relay and see if that can be causing the issue.

BTW (its like pulling teeth to get help in the V6 forum I have found)

it seems like it is turning over good and everything does autozone test them? and does it cost anything to get tested?

yes they test them for free. It may be sticking, jack it up and whack the hell out of it with a hammer for 5 mins and see if it starts right up.. If it does then the starter is definatly the issue.

Dont do that. It does not sound like your starter if it will start then stop.

Does it sputter? have you thrown any coded?

Could be a bad coil pack, check your plugs lately, could be lots of problems. How many miles on the car? Could be clogged injectors

Get AutoZone or another shop to pull the codes for you. If there are no codes, I would take it to someone to check the static timing and the compression.

In te bad old days of plastic timing gears and inserts (i.e. the 1970's), you could have a piece of plastic break off and cause the timing chain to jump one tooth. Made it awful hard to get the engine to start. Of course the 3.8 doesn't have plastic in the timing chain assembly, but the chain or gears could be damaged anyway.

When it DOES start, how is the power? Is the MIL (Check Engine) flashing after a start?
