Hey guys (and gals). Well, I wanted to see about getting some opinions as to what my next performance modification should be. I'm thinking about throwing in another $100 - $200 dollars and I was wondering, with my current setup, what would be the most bang for the buck. I was thinking about underdrive pulleys, but I've heard some pretty bad things about them in the past. At any rate, any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. :nice: :flag:

Underdrive pulleys fit right in that price range.

That's what I was thinking....but I heard that if you have any kind of aftermarket stereo installed in your car, you could have trouble getting the car to start. Does anyone know if that's true or not? I'd like to get the pulleys, but I also need my car to be 100% reliable as well. Thanks guys.

I have one sub with amp, and they work just fine with the pulley I got. Plus, if you have problems with it, you can easily remove it.

you shouldnt have a problem, but if you get worried you can put a new alternator pulley on. how many watts does your amp pull?

He said performance. If you already have an 8.8 rear end, I'd say go with some gears. If not, the underdrive pullies or how about some high flow cats?

Well, pulleys and high flow cats seem to be the two options that I'm thinking over. Both are pretty much in my price range so that's kind of cool. As for how many watts my amp pulls, I think it's 500. It's nothing too crazy. Just enough to put the bump in the trunk. Well, pay day is next Friday so I'll be sure to let you guys know what I went with. Thanks for all the advice.

HFC's would be nice also, and would make exhaust tone a bit deeper. If you want performance though, you'd probably notice a bigger difference with the pulleys than you would with the cats.

pulleys for pre 99 stangs are VERY cheap only buy the crank pulley, i belive www.rpm-mustangs.com sells them, the install is also VERY easy you can do it your self pretty fast.

If you want an amazing mod replace the rear end with an 8.8 rear from speedconcepts.net since you have a pre 99 its a prefect fit, just reuse your axles and brakes, then sell your stock rear end for a decent price~

you will shave off half a second easy with gears and a tlok unit that the 8.8 will offer, along with the fact that the 8.8 will be very strong and reliable.

I'm not sure if the 7.5 and 8.8 axle shafts are interchangable, but if they are, the then 7.5 axle shafts in an 8.8 rear end would be your weakest link, and therefor no better than the stock 7.5 rear end you just replaced. Correct?

I believe that is where most failures occur at the track, is with the axles breaking.

    actually the spider gears break.

With the 8.8 you get a bigger diff and gears, and stronger pumpkin. Breaking the gears happens when you begin to flex the pumpkin and put stress on the side of the gears.

A girdle would be enough support for most v6's as it keeps the pumpkin from flexing.

I was just curious as I've heard of a lot fo people snapping axles, but then again, you could just get forged ones.
