I have a 1995 mustang 3.8 5sp. A few days ago i blew a head gasket and antifreeze went everywhere. Do you guys think I should fix it, or go a head and put a 5.0 in it? I'm just afraid something else might be messed up after i put new head gaskets in it. and it would be stupid to put alot of money into a v6 motor. I'v been wanting to put a v8 in the car but didn't want to mess with it since it "was" running great and i never had a problem with it. I need your advice, what woud you do? If you think i should replace the gaskets what should i look for? Thanks for your help!!
Stang95silv: I say drop a 5.0 in it. Just be sure you inpect everything else and make sure all else is okay. Yes it would be easier to just put another 3.8 in, but hey, if you have the money, have the know how, and have the techincal ability to put in a 5.0, I say do it. Don't forget "replace the engine replace the transmission" is what I always say, It's like your starting out with a brand new car Besides, 5.0's REALLY like mods from what I hear. Just my .02. Hope this helps. Doc
well you goin to have about $200 in the head gasket change if you do it yourself.. thats accounting for the new head gaskets and having the heads checked i'd say go for the 5.0
and also you have to buy new head bolt too. i just pulled my motor from my 95 and let me tell you it is no easy task. well it would have been easier if i did not take the intake off and decide whether to leave the tranny in or take it out too. do i need different motor mounts and clutch if i put my hopped up 302 in it.i am putting a carbed 302 in it one of these days. but hopefully i will have money so i can have it dropped in instead of me doing it.
If you have the money, put in a 5.0 engine in it. If you don't, put in a new headgasket. My t-bird has the 3.8 in it, and it's been 58k miles since I changed it with no problems, knock on wood
