Hey everyone, i just purchased my 2004 Mustang GT (auto) 40th anniversay with 15k miles on 10/04/06. So far i love the car! it came with a MAC CAI, and a Flowmaster Catback.

    I had a few questions:

what are some pros/cons of getting 3.73 gears on a Auto GT?

How will the gears affect the way the car revs, shifts, and drives?

Will gears drop my mpg? (i drive 2k+ miles a month)

Thanks in advance for the help! and illl try to get some pics up asap :)

373's will increse ur acceleration significantly. It will raise ur rpms about 300 give or take. And yes unfortunatly higher rpms mean lower mpg. also will slightly lower the top speed

dont waste your money on 3.73s. for an auto, you want at least 4.10s.

I have an auto with 4.10s and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yes, really, no less than 3.90s or 4.10s for a 4.6 GT with an auto. Honestly I think the stangs should have come with a steeper gear from factory. As far as the way it drives, It will be much quicker off the line and in every gear. YOu'll run a higher RPM in your final gear while cruising. It wont effect gas mileage much, but it could if you dont keep your foot out of the gas, which you wont be able to. :)

    OH, AND DO A SEARCH!!!!!

The car drives about the same other than your RPMs will be allittle bit higher when crusing. I havent noticed any change in MPG. The car was a blast with the 4.10s before the blower now it even better. I can easily say it was the best mod I ever did before the blower.

I would get FRPP 4.10s and an SCT XCal 2.

If you don't plan on superchargering or spraying, get the 4.10's.

    Otherwise, get the 3.73s.

If you have a S/C and 4.10s, it'll be damn hard to hook to the street.

my car came with a Catback and a CAI, would gears be the next ideal mod? i dont plan on getting any forced induction and i dont plan on racing the car on the track or the street. its my daily driver and just for cruisin around town. i probably do 70% city/30% highway driving.

I have the 4.10's and if you are driving 70% city, it's a good gear for you. I lost about 2 mpg but the difference in sotp feel was definitely worth it. I've got magnapacks and the only annoying thing is a long highway trip at 70-75 mph will wear on you after a while.
