Ok here goes. I had a 94 cobra that I sold a few years back, long story short I couldn't find the factory stereo before selling it. I came across it recently, its in great shape and I would like to incorporate it into my 2000 F150 if possible. I am pretty sure I cannot do it with the factory head unit and slave CD player. I would like to install a aftermarket CD player and run the rest of the 460 components, including the amps. Is this possible, I have read up some and have seen the wire kit on crutchfield but still am unclear. I have all the components but only the wires for the rear amps. The rest were cut and are missing. So if I were to purchase an aftermarket head unit and the wiring kit on crutchfield for the premium ford stereos can and how do I run the rest of the stuff. Does everything run into the little amp first then to the other two? Its hard to grasp it fully without the wiring. Or do I use the RCA preouts somehow to drive the two rear amps and the head unit speaker outputs for the tweets. If someone could help me out I would appreciate it, I hate to throw away perfectly good stuff and listen to my crap factory F150 anymore. I'm fairly sharp with this stuff but remember I dont have the front half of the wiring and its been a few years since I have wired up a stereo.

I have seen something similar to what you want to do attempted and it turned out the be the biggest headaches and did not sound well at all. It was a Mach 1000 install into a Ford Bronco. Long story short, the owner just scrapped everything, sold whatever Mach 1000 equipment he had on ebay, went out and bought a nice 5 channel amp and aftermarket speakers and one sub. Sounded way much better. I remember walking into the garage and seeing the owner trying to figure out the wiring and turning to me asking if I wanted to help. I swore I never ran so fast in my life back to my house.

    I would not do it.

Sell the 460 to someone who needs the replacement parts and buy all new aftermarket parts.

    Will sound 100x better.

I know it will sound much better, bottom line is I cant afford an entire stereo and it won't happen. I can't buy cheap crap and its either stuff I have or nothing at all. Thanks for the honest opinions.
