Hi, I just bought a 96 Mustang Cobra with a Vortec V2 supercharger and have noted a couple of issues (so far). The idle stays at ~2000 rpm for 20-30 seconds then drops to 1200 after starting and revving engine. I did discover a vacuum leak where the supercharger tubing attaches to the intake. I plugged it and it made the idle a little bit better. The previous owner showed me a dyno sheet that indicated 404 rwhp but it feels like it is lower than that when flooring it. This leaves me suspicous that there are other things that I will soon find wrong with the car. With 95K miles on the engine, any suggestions for future proofing my investment? Other threads stated that the engine is plenty durable even at this high mileage. I'm going to remove the AIC and clean it and follow someone else's suggestion by cleaning the IMRC. I anticipated this car being a little bit of a project car but hope that it does not die on me prematurely. The current mods are: - Vortech V2 S-Trim with anderson powerpipe 10psi - 42lb injectors/255lph Pump/90mm MAF - 4.10 FMS gears - Pro 5.0 Shifter - King Cobra clutch - 2 chamber flowmaster mufflers - NGK plugs w/MSD Wires (thinking of going with Iridium plugs) - Autometer Phantom Guages in A-pillar w/boost, fuel pressure (not functioning) - Strange 10 way adjustable shocks/struts with/H&R Springs (needs replacement) - FMS Aluminum Driveshaft - Steeda Alum Upper/Lower control arms - 2003 Steeda front control arms - Brembo Rotors/Porterfield Brake pads - Trickflow Rear End Cover - 2001 Cobra wheels with Bridgestone tires Will post some pics when I get a chance. Thanks for your suggestions. Mark
people are gonna say thats why you don't buy modded cars. But I hope you figure it all out sounds like a nice car
A high idle can be a number of things. First take it to autozone and check for codes. Then check for loose connections, grounds not tight. Check to see if there is a chip in the computer.
I appreciate the ideas. I am going to take it into a Ford dealership and the tech said that he would give the car a good look over for any issues. As far as pulling and cleaning components ect., that will require me to tinker and have a little fun. Just some additional stuff I noticed is the odometer stopped working, throttle cable has some slack and shifting into 2nd gear does not like to catch unless you bring it in slowly. I am still interested in hearing recommendations so I can gauge what maintenance/repair endevours I have to look forward to. Thanks. Mark
