So ya i have been lookin around on here for a little while, so I figured I would join up and get some info.
Basically I have been looking for a few months to find a project car...I was looking for a 3rd gen camaro but there hard to find in a 5 speed and I have always loved the 5.0 Stangs! Also my moms bf wants a 5.0 Project so he can help me out on it :)
I found a 89ish GT in my old town that has been sitting for a couple years but no forsale sign! So I think this comming weekend i will pop bye and ask.
Needs some body work not bad tho...little breakouts on the wheel wells.

Anyways I am still searching around but what years should I stay away from?
I read that the pre 84 had weak blocks?
And where are some week points on them that I should look at when searchin?

This Is going to be a project for the next 2 years...So basically I plan on dropping alot of cash over the years on it.
Hoping to build a 12 second car...which for a 5.0L shouldnt be hard.

So I hope I find the car soon so I can start ordering parts :)

It's going to be real difficult to find a foxbody that is in good shape for a nice price. I would make sure it isn't someone's rigged project. Nothing like working behind someone. The 302 blocks are good to about 450 horses, it's just the 85+ are adapted for roller lifters, hence the "roller block".

Just check for a car that isn't cracked or rusted, and you should be find. These cars are cheap to fix, and easy to make fast.

89-93 have a MAF and 88 Below is SD.... when buying one check for weak floor boards and check out the torque boxes and rust! those are the biggest issues!

A good starting point is the 89-91 Stangs. Mass air, and still has forged slugs from TRW. For sure, get a 5spd car. So much of the 5.0 potential is lost in the slushbox AOD. Mainly, try to find one as close to stock as possible. Performance parts are cheap compared to fixing someone elses mistakes!:bang:
