Here is the Day #3 link:

    http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?p=7522794#post7522794

Actually, DAY "4" is combined into a few "part" days. The E9 is ready to go on tomorrow, hopefully before dinner, at which point I can shoot some photos.

Here is the area primed and ready:

Took me about 4 hours today after Wed primer to sand out all the black paint spots put over primer (to detect pits, etc). Got the area cleaned up really good around the car.

NOW, according to my painter, who has been doing this for 25 years, we do NOT need to put primer over the current red. He said that we only need to clean the red good and scuff it up with a Scotch pad. The only areas that need additional primer are those with bare metal exposed.

Sat morning we need to rig up a bay using drop cloths hanging from the garage door. Look for finished pics on Sat or Sunday
    Thanks

Looking good. Do you plan on keeping it lazer red or is there a color change in the works I dont recall reading the color?

I have heard from many body guys you only need to scuff up the old paint to give the paint something to hold on to just make sure there is no rust under the paint. I have painted or worked helping buddies repaint 3 cars in the past. Not that I am any kind of expert...but I did ask experts for some tips.

We found that scotch brite pads are really, really handy.

Moving along at a good pace. :nice:

What's the hole in the drivers side for? And you do know you can run the hood latch cable through the fenderwell?

Gotcha, not up to snuff on my paint codes. Should look sharp.

Have you found what your going to use to soften the holes in the inner fenders? FWIW I used a length of hose split down the middle. Depending on the size of the hole I used diff. diam. hose. I used some paint reducer to wipe down the hose and remove the white part number stuff. Makes a nice soft edge.

Ive already considered that...either what you said or a flexible piece of door edge trim.

    Mike:

    1. Washer fluid reservoir for the hole.

    2. Havent really thought about the hood latch....wanna throw me a bone?? I guess I should take that off before the painter gets here huh?

You also need a "donor" car to give them when you're done working on it :D

ALSO...today is exactly FOUR weeks since we begun ripping everything apart. Between NOW and 2 weeks from today, the goals are:

Working on the Battery in Trunk, getting some of the gauges and the clutch all in place, assemble the engine, then on that Sat in 2 weeks dropping the engine in, then setting a goal for 2 weeks from then,....more or less....to get everything on and FIRING up the car!!

    Thanks

Why yes, that would be quite helpful. Of course buying a donor car would mean that I have money, and well... I don't. :(

Ive made about $2k on selling parts so far, between those on my car and on the donor car.

Still have the MSD 6AL box, some gauges, a PI Stallion Converter and Some Fox Valve covers...polished.
