Just wanted to introduce myself and ask a quick question. I recently traded in my 98 Eclipse GSX for a 00 V6 Conv. I cut my hp in half but the girlfriend likes it, insurance is cheaper, and I'm loving the open air driving....so I guess I can't complain.
Anyway, I'm going to try to learn a lot off this site by searching and reading but I need to find one thing out soon. On my year/model convertible, did they come stock w/ a cover for the top when its down? The dealer is going to replace/fix anything wrong with the car as long as I get the request in to them in time.

Thanks for the help. I'm looking forward to working on/learning about my new car. Later :D

Gee, depends on if it was an option or not. I think it was standard, but my 1994 v6 came with a black boot that covered the top. I cant see why a 94 would have it and a 00 wouldnt. My car has had so many owners, like the owners manual, you would think mine would have dissapeared too.

It looks good, but I never used it. It was always a hassle putting it on (very difficult) Only time I think I did have it on, was for a homecoming parade. Its amazing how difficult one stupid black foldy thing was compared to my speedster covers, which look much better, and serve the same purpose as the boot did.

i think it is a factory standar feature, dont no tho i have a base v6 hard top. if you dont need it too bad and the dealer wont pay for it then just wait and buy a 2pc tonneu cover. they look so nice and the 2 pc ones will fit nicely in your trunk

It depends on the package your car is coming with. If it is one of the fully loaded packages (leather interior and tract. control are easy tattletale signs), then it would. Just lie and say it came with one. Save ya $100 or so. ($300 if you get one new from ford) I agree, they're a pain in the butt to put on, but it really makes your car look a lot better.

What exactly do you mean when you say you cut your hp in half?

Ok first, I didnt think the speedster covers fit in the trunk. Mine barely fit in the backseat. I'm not saying you're wrong. I never tried it, just visually, didnt seem like it would fit. 94-98 may be different from a 99-04 though.

Second, it must be quite a weird option. I believe my car may have been a rental at one point. It was a registered fleet car, and was auctioned off in 95. It came with the boot, and a funky cargo net for the trunk. These could have been purschased at a later time when it belonged to one of the two owners before me.

My car really didnt come with any options that I know of. List some off for me please. Mine came with power steering, abs, alloy wheels, rear defroster, cruise control, a/c and heater. Thats all I know of, but I assumed that was standard. My car DID NOT come with leather, no spoiler, no fogs, and I've never heard of traction control on stangs.

My 01 Hard top GT had what Ford claimed was traction control....yeah right. Every time I mashed the throttle the car launched hard left. Every single time, the left rear wheel would spin while the right one just sat there. Very dangerous and, in fact, the cause of me wrecking it into an apartment complex..but lets not talk about that. :nonono:

um if u were talking to me about puttin the speedster cover in the trunk, i did suggest buying a 2pc one. its basically a speedster cover cut down the middle to allow u to put it in the trunk in case it rains for something

Yeah I know you were talking about the 2 piece. I happen to own the two piece which is why I questioned its fitting capabilities. If it were one piece like the saleens, I dont think it would fit in the backseat at all. The black boot however definately fits in the trunk, no questions about that.

It does w/ the amount of time and money I put into it. Some DSM's have made it to the 600-700 hp range. Stock it's rated at 210 hp.

Thanks guys for the replies. I've been busy, so I haven't checked back in until now. My car does have leather and traction control so judging by a previous post I should have a cover. It's really not that important to me. If it's a hassle to put on, I'd probably never use it but it'd still be nice to have.

On my 98, the artificial simulated leather boot takes all of 30 seconds to put on, and that includes the 10 seconds it takes me to walk around to the other side and shove that end into the locking tabs. I was the second owner of this car and only had 7K miles when I picked it up from the dealer - the boot was included.

Get the boot on eBay for $75 or less.

As far as the speedster cover goes, I'd go with the two piece. Much more convenient.

true, the speedster is nice......especially when you have the windguard. Keeps the wind from rushing in all from the top and rear

I also have the 2 piece
