Probably an introduction thread somewhere, but nonetheless

Recently sold my 94 mustang GT and bought a near showroom stock 98 cobra. Its a great car, I bought it because it seemed everything i wanted to do to the GT was already done from the factory, and wrapped in a better looking package.

Getting used to the modular motor and learning its quirks. After owning it a month, it threw the code that I assume means "clean the IMRC's!!" which seems to be a pain in the ass process (much like diagnosing and replacing the ignition module and mass air flow sensor twice after purchasing a bad one on the 5.0). I would love to have a twin screw supercharger so i could have all the low end torque I want and get rid of them.

Eventual plans are forged pistons and rods, and then whatever amount of boost I decide is necissary at the time lol. Im not very interested in the straights anymore as a road race course opened up an hour away from me. The other side of it is, if I'm making enough money, I'd probably step up to an 03 cobra because it already has forged internals and forced induction. I'd just hate to have more weight on the nose of a front biased car.

Hope to chase down some LS1's at the road course next year :nice:

    Questions for the reader:

are there any more common issues that I should budget for when it comes to this car? I've already installed a short throw to protect the transmission

And is a handheld tuner the best way to recalibrate the speedometer, albiet most expensive, for the non-factory rear gears?

    Welcome aboard.

Aside from dirty/sticking IMRCs, there were no other real "issues" with the 98s (other than the usual stuff to check when buying an 11 year old vehicle).

FWIW, check out the following IMRC cleaning procedure PDF document (credit to svtmustangcobraclub website):
