Excuse my newbieness but when it comes stereos and speakers that's what I am.

I have a '98 GT with the Premium sound system and I recently but in a Pioneer aftermarket receiver to replace the stock unit. Recently my speakers have been going in and out. First they all work, then only the driver door, then only the rear etc., etc. So I'm assuming the speakers are going (again, forgive my stupidity) and nearing the end of their life.

So I want to replace them all with some good quality speakers but at the same time I don't need megawattage...just good quality replacements. I have underdrive pullies so that's also a concern.

What size are the sstock peakers or at least lead me to a place where I can become more knowledgable and find these things out. Any recommendations or advice is appreciated. Thanks.

crutchfield should have all that info on your car, just dont buy from them, they are very over priced.

when you say premium you mean mach460? and your speakers are cutting in and out? you mean no sound then normal sound? if so correct me if i am wrong guys. your problem might be in the connection at installation harness used. The black square plug ( assuming metra harness 70-5511) if it is pushed in all the way it sometimes gets a back connectoin. this can cause the speaker to cut in and out.

    Who installed your deck?

If i am correct changeing your speakers will leave you with the same problem.

Just a thought, but did you use an adapter harness to use the aftermarket head unit with the Mach460? Look into picking up something like this if you didn't. Without it, you're overdriving your factory amps, and they probably have some sort of thermal protection that's cutting in and out.
