I have a 99 cobra and when I shift and let out the clutch, I hear a thump that appears to be in the rear end. Anyone have any ideas what this could be? I actually drove a 99 cobra about 2 years ago and I heard the same thing. It pretty much happens out of all gears.

Yes that has been one of the 99's known issues since 2000. it is a cluink from the rear and many assume it is driveline lash. I disagree as my 99 had it, yet mt 97 did not.

Is it safe or will it cause me problems?

I had my 99 for 32,000 miles when I got rid of it. It could lead to potential issues, but hard to say. I had a set of rear wheel bearings go south on me and tore up my spindle.

Not sure if that caused it or not.
