    Greetings,

This is my first post but I'm not new to Mustangs. I am about to order an '06 which will make the forth mustang I've owned. I've owned an '86 LX, '01 Bullitt, '03 Mach 1 and soon an '06 GT. My wife is currently on her 2nd Mustang aswell.

I would like to order the car with the racing strips that run end-to-end across the top of the car. Can anyone that has ordered their car that way enlighten me as to about how much that adds to the cost and if there are options as to how the stripes may be painted on etc?

I'm currently looking at getting an '06 GT, black, tan interior, 5-speed, 18" polished rims. Is it possible to get it lowered from the factory?

Thanks for the help! Enjoying the forums.:nice:

don't know if this helps, but I doubt Ford will lower it from the factory, the dealership may do it and charge you, but at least then it's under warranty. As for the stripes, from the websites I have seen and been on, the stripes aren't even an option anymore, but I can't say for sure. I did look at an 05 GT that was striped at my local dealer the other day, and no way would I have it. The stripes were painted on after the car had been cleared, so you could feel tape lines, and the ends of the stripe, where you would pull the tape from, was flaking off. I would stay away from the stripes. But that's just my opinion.

    That sounds really bad.

Well, if I can't order the stripes I may not really need to order the car, which means I could get it alot sooner if a dealer can locate something along the lines of what I'm looking for! :D

Stripes are offered as an accessory from the parts dept. after the car is delivered. Those stripes are 8" wide, which personally don't look good. They are vinyl stripes. It gets real hot in Tx and the vinyl will bubble eventually so painting was my best option.

I went through pretty much the same thing you are right now and I was going to have the dealership paint 10 3/4" stripes on my Performance white GT for $875.00.
That was one hell of a price considering most people are paying 1200-2000 for stripes to be painted on. Consider that if you get them painted outside a ford dealer you probably won't have warranty on your paint.

I picked up my car 2 weeks ago today and after getting the windows tinted and removing the spoiler and adding a CDC Ducktail decided the car looked great and did not need stripes. The ducktail was 295 and the dealership charged me 430 to remove the spoiler, weld the holes, paint the trunk and ducktail, install ducktail with hardware (requires drilling into the car). Apparently the ducktail can be "taped" on with the provided adhesive, but I'd recommend bolting it on. You can order the spoiler delete option on the 06.

Finally, according to Ford's literature when the car is ordered with the new 18" wheel option the factory "tunes" the suspension for the wheels. Mine sits a litte high in the back, but I think the front is right. Here is a pic of Sally before the ducktail.

    Have fun!

I think I'm going to skip the stripes. It was a good idea until it became a dealer option. I just don't trust dealer shops, I always fear the worst.

    Appreciate the responses.

Just my opinion but you should go with the dark charcoal interior, a guy in town here has light interior on a sonic 05 and its just not appealing and it gets dirty fast. The interior is awesome looking and the charcoal just brings it out. just my 02 cents. have fun with your car when it comes in.
