Do I need to drill the door handle to get it off? Do I just a set of nuts and bolts to put the new one on? Thank you
Yes, you have to drill out the old rivets to get the old handle off. You can either bolt the new one on, or rivet it back on if you have big enough rivets.
Yes, you need to drill the old one off, but for the love of god have someone hold the handle while you do. I have seen several foxes with circle scratches around the door handles becuase the drill spun the handle around.. Personally I would Rivet it. The handles usually come with them, just do the loan a tool at autozone. you can practically put em on in the parking lot. Only takes a sec. And make sure you get METAL replacement handles.. NOT OEM plastic ones.. Dr.
I just did this. I purchased the steele handles from 50 resto (awesome site). 1. Remove inner door skin 2. Drill out rivits 3. replace handle 4. Install pop rivits (you can not get the rivit gun from Wal Mart for this, you need one from a shop if you dont own the correct size already) 5. the bar that comes up on the inner of the door that the lever from the handel uses. Bend the tip after install so that it dont slip out. (it happened to me and I could not get into the door from the outside, I had to take the inner skin off to fix it and that is when I bent the tip so it dont happen again.) 6. replace skin and enjoy STRONG handles. Pllease if you have a Digi camera, take a pic of each step and post a tech article and a good write up on this install. If you have any questions on this pm me, Ill be glad to help
Just a tip! I used a spot weld cutter on the rivits and it worked much better than a drill bit. Also I used chrome metal door handles off a T-bird!! Bruce
