    Yes I did a search! Today I bought a 91 2.3 vert with the a4ld tranny.
The overdrive position on the shifter does not let the car move!!
If I go from P to 1,2 or D it works fine..If I go to the OD position, it won't go..
even if I go from OD to 1,2 or D. Park is fine, Shifts fine in D. Any help on fixing this tranny? Or even info on what parts are acting up.
In my search all I found (going back nearly a year and 30 pages) was
to do the T-5 swap. This may be a possibility later but I am seeking info on
    fixing this.
I am going for the neener neener factor with my buddies on this deal.
I only paid $500.00 for it and other than the tranny, the only problems are
a broken door handle, slight fading in the drivers seat and a little crack on the edge of the vert top. My sister-in law hates me because I won't sell it to her.
I do have an 86 turbo coupe w/T-5 that is a rust bucket that might give up its tranny parts later. Motor is spoken for!
Please help me with this a4ld info....anything...web sights, books, personal experience...anything!
    Thanks
    Bruce (TX)

Your tranny is blown. Swap in the T-5.

could be the pointer is out of alignment, i would try counting the clicks to get it into OD and see if it works that way. The OD should only kick in above a certian speed, so until that speed it should funtion exactly like "D" Our old taurus had a similar issue but it turned out that when the Pointer was at OD the tranny was in "N" OD ended up being in between 2 other gears, i would just count the clicks to get it in the right gear.

    Maybe I wasn't clear!

I checked the pointer and it is fine. I know about the T-5 swap and I do suspect that it may be blown up and get a T-5. This is not for a race car or a hot rod.
It is for cruising around. Once you put the selector in OD and it gets to the point where it should pull it does not. Also, one it has been placed into OD and you realize that it is not pulling, shifting directly to 1,2 or D have no results. It does not move! If I put it in reverse and it catches, I can then go to 1,2 or D and they function perfectly.
I am seeking information on the a4ld transmission. I know that most people here see this as a fools mission and I agree on many levels that this is a POS tranny!! I also have an 83 5.0 with a SROD 4-speed and a Capri with a straight 6 in it. I am on a learning quest here! I often try rebuilding things that I have seen others throw away. With the exception of a manual trans and an air conditioning compressor I have rebuilt almost everything except maintainance parts (shocks, ball joints etc).
Can anyone with any actual rebuilding knowledge or experience help?
    Thanks

Where in TX are you? I found one for $300 for my daughter's car. Most shops want $1K for a rebuild. I think there's one for sale on Austinareastangs.com.

overdrive on the a4ld is just a tiny band. it goes out first. Hopefully, if it didn't slip to much causing to much heat, you can get by with 3 gears for a while.
