I've been getting the check engine light lately. I reset it by disconnecting the battery, but as soon as I fill the tank back up, I get the engine light back on. It will come on shortly after driving after a fill-up. the code I got is p1443.

I've done some research to find out that it is EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM CONTROL VALVE.

I tried changing the cap, thinking the cap was bad, but still happening. Where is this valve, how hard is it to change. I've also noticed that the parts stores do not carry this part, and is only a dealer part. WhYYYYYYY...

    Thanks..

To understand what the affected system is, go here:

    http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h62.pdf

The general code for this is a P0443, which stands for "Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Malfunction."

I would assume that the P1 portion of the code is specific to the Ford manufacturer. So, it sounds like there is a problem with either a portion of the emissions system or the actual ECU itself.

Look for a box on the side of your engine compartment and see if you can find it. It should be black with a wire and two hoses coming from the top of it. Pic:

Follow the hoses to where ever they go, and if one is not connected, it could be the problem. Make sure that the wire is getting to where it needs to go as well - connected to something. Other than that, that's all the help I can offer at this time.

Let us know what you find out.
