Ok, here goes. I recently purchased a 98 GT convertible, color code E9, laser red. It was a repo, so I got it pretty cheap. It was really dirty every time I looked at it, so I didn't notice until I got it home and washed/waxed it that the paint on the hood and left fender isn't quite right. By that I mean that the previous owner obviously had a bra on the car, there is a definite line extenting from the top of the left fender to about mid-way accross the hood. The area "below" the line is beautiful and bright. The area above the line starts just a little lighter in the middle of the hood, but by the time you get to the left fender it is very noticable. In fact the top of the fender almost looks like the paint was mixed lighter, except that the area under the bra line is fine and the side of the fender is fine. I've tried a clay bar, and some polishing compound but neither seems to have made a difference. I really don't want to pursue a new paint job, any ideas? I've thought of just putting another bra on which would hide most of the problem, but now that I know it's there....got to do something! I'd appreciate any ideas anyone may have.

    Thanks

That is the problem about the bras...they'll either get dirty in between and rub the paint or it won't fade the same. If you can live with the looks of a bra..that would be your cheapest method to go about it.

I'll try and get some pictures...at work at the moment so....oooopsss guess I shouldn't have said that, hope no one is watching!!!

I thought I might try some paint cleaner, I'm a bit nervous about using a rubbing compound, not sure of the quality of the paint job to begin with. I kind of suspect it was repainted. I don't really mind the look of a bra on the car, so I'll probably go that route if all else fails. Don't know if a paint shop would give me much advise on how to resurrect the paint as opposed to just recommending repainting.

The other thing about painting..is that they'll have to do multiple panels from the sound of it..and the new laser red won't look like the old :(
