I was in a hurry the first time I posted this and made the mistake of posting it in the Copacabana, where all I got were people who just wanted to insult the car and CDC.

My problem is that I have a Classic Design Concepts (CDC) Shaker Hood kit on my car that was installed by the dealership. When I was traveling to my hometown over the weekend the front left side of the applique started rattling real bad, so much so I was afraid it might come off the hood (and hit the windshield or the car behind me). When I stopped and inspected the applique I saw that it had put some scratches around it and had even chipped off some of the paint. The red line on the pic below shows where the scratches and chips are. I tried taking some pictures of the damage itself but they didn't come out well. The applique didn't rattle at all on my way back home. I think it did on the way down because I was driving at interstate speeds into strong winds.

While the obvious answer to this problem is to take it back to the dealership and let them fix it, since I have it in writing that they will fix any shaker hood related problems, this is complicated by the dealership being 90 miles away and it being even windier now then what it was Sunday.

    Questions I need answered:
    1. Does anyone know a simple fix for this? (I'd still have the dealership repaint the hood)
    If not:
    2. How is the applique attached?
    3. What is the chance of it coming off on me?

I hate to come across as an ass but just to clarify a few things; I don't care what you think of the way my car looks, I don't care what you think of CDC, and I got this car for half of what the same dealership was selling a Mach 1 for (hence why I didn't get a Mach 1 instead of it). Once again, sorry for being so gruff but I need help, not attitude. Any assistance anyone can give will be greatly appreciated.

I have the shaker from cdc and put it on myself. Its got these little plastic "studs" that come through holes in the hood. Then a self tapping nut it used to "dig" into the stud and hold it. If you take your hood liner out you will see what I am talking about. Also you need to align it so that it is in the middle. In the pic it is off to one side :D
I think once you take the hood liner off you will be able to give us more info. :nice:

the stud nut was probly over torqued I did the same thing, called CDC and got a new applique... seal it with silicone and torque it to spec. it wont happen again.... a temp fix I used that window goo (black tarry stuff) to hold mine down until the new aplique is painted.

Why don't you just get the actual mach 1 hood? Seems like it would look alot better and you wouldnt have to hassle with the lame aplique.

mach 1 hood doesnt fit the CDC shaker, the CDC shaker is the same box off a 69 mach (direct replacement) any how the hole is smaller and how it sits (hieght) is different too.... CDC screwed us on this one cause the 05 shaker has an optional hood... we need to petition them to make a custom hood for us too :)

Thanks for all the help guys! I'll try to take a look at that stud this even after I get off work and see if it is broken. I was thinking if I had to I couple wrap some ducktape around the hood a couple of times. That should keep the applique from coming off on me. Of course, if I had to pass any ricers or other Mustangs I'd die of embarrisment!

90RanGer: As MyPonySucks said, a Mach 1 hood won't work with the CDC setup. Since this is the 2nd problem I've had due to this shaker hood I am tempted to find a used Mach 1 and trade it for that before its warrenty is up.

If you really want a mach 1 go for it, but I think you'll be pleasently surprised after contacting CDC. Talk to Marnie Kramer shes pretty helpful. To get this installed correctly youre looking at a 5 dollar tube of silicone and an overnight drying time with some clamps. IF the stud is broken see if CDC will replace it for free, then you are looking at paint, but then you have the option to change it to whatever color you want, I highly suggest clear bra for the tip if not the whole aplique, its a rock gobbler. Good luck with whatever you do.

The dealership will be the ones dealing with CDC. I just have to make sure the car won't fly apart on me during my 90 mile drive to it. Thanks for the help! The clear bra is probably a good idea.

Worse come to worse, CDC does sell a replacement applique. Come to think of it, you might want to mention this to the installing dealer.

Unless you really have to, I would never put duct tape onto any painted surface.

His paint is already screwed up - they are going to have to replaint it anyhow. Might as well use some duct tape. :nice:

Did a Ford dealership install it for you?

I don't know if it is me just be paranoid, or just from my previous experiences, but I would be worried that if I drove in with 10% of the paint damage their fault, but 90% of the paint damage was my fault, that they might not be so willing to absorb 100% of the re-painting cost.

When mine was flappin it didn't dammge any paint, luckily I installed mine over my clear bra... Try that automotive window sealant. I dont think its very expensive and its lasted 2 months so far... I dont want to put the new applique on until after winter so... :p

The dealership I have been buying my Mustangs from, installs all sorts of custom items including the CDC stuff. They are quite willing to do a lot of customizing work on customer's Mustangs, but just be prepared to pay BIG for their time/labor to do it.

You made some good points about this and about the dealership using it as an excuse to not repaint the hood. I'll probably just have to drive down there on a non-windy day and take it a bit slower than normal. I decided I shouldn't look at it myself because then the dealership might blame me for breaking it.

Yes. It was installed by the dealership long before I ever saw the car. There are a couple dealerships around there now that put shaker hoods on almost all their GTs.
