***now with pics**** As if the 88 wasnt enough! Yup bought a 1966 coupe a few days ago. Wasnt looking for a new project but I got myself into one now. a run down on it. non running I6. a few dents and bumps that should rub out nicely. Arizona car so the floorboards and frame rails are in great shape. I hate rust so once I saw it had just surface rust in some areas and the floorboards were solid I was pleased. I will have pics soon as I know you guys are going to hound me for posting this without. It is a true project so it wont be up and running tomorrow. it is all there just need to clean it up and add the v-8 and supporting parts. I think the only forums I am missing now are the SVT and s197 LOL. First things: mainly cleaning it up. painting the underside of the roof and floor boards with por15 or bedliner. Also the bottom of the car. Going to remove the gas tank and other pieces to get the entire underside done. After that we are going to sit down and write a list of things to do to it as far as mods. This is my wife's car although I give her crap saying it is mine LOL. She has always wanted a 60's mustang and while I was a little timid in getting it I think in the end it will be a great experience for the family and she will enjoy it. anyways wish me luck Jon
What kind of motor you plan on putting in? 289? Or you gonna go bigger? Staying carb? I'd throw a carbed 5.0HO in there.
probably carbed 5.0. easier to work on. I love the fuel injection but cost and what not isnt feasible for what I want to do to it. Not going with a show car. Just a clean little driver. Although I would love to cut out the shock tower and put in a heidts mustang II front end. But that will all come in due time. It is rough but once I get it cleaned up it will be great. I call it my barnyard diamond in the rough find.

home finally.THis will be her car since she has always wanted a 60's mustang. She really wanted a 67-68 but I guess she'll settle for this LOL. great part is she gave the thumbs up right away.

that thing is a work of art man, you know you're a true car guy when they're beautiful to you in that condition! it honestly looks like it needs a thorough cleaning and dusting and the dash and everything will clean right up, best of luck and keep us posted!!
LOL, yeah it is rough but for $700 I couldnt pass it up. It was outside the guys house so there is a lot of dirt and most everything you see is covered in dirt. I sprayed the engine down with the garden house before I rolled it into the garage and could see all the factory paint on the firewall. The front end is in the inside of the car. He started to take it apart but got busy. He had a lot of projects and didnt want to let this one go. Good guy though. Knows his stuff.
Nice, my dad has a BUNCH of old mustang parts in the garage if you need some. Including some stock seats, door panels, and a bunch of random parts.
sweet thanks for letting me know. I will probably be hitting you up when the time comes. the only thing that sucks about the doors is someone cut them to put speakers in. probably have to sand the entire door down smooth then put a patch piece in.
Beautiful! Those early model Mustangs were true works of art... I'd love an old fastback and restore the body/interior with a carb'd 302 with just h/c/i. Quite a fun DD if you ask me.

You should see this 66 coupe I just started doing at my shop. You say you dont like rust, the following are to be replaced on this car. Full floor pan seat pan complete firewall full upper and lower cowl cowl side panels both fender aprons shock towers spring covers full front frame rails rad support full rear frame rails door shells fenders front valance This car is a mess, someone covered the old rusty floors on the top and bottom with bare steel sheets and riveted them in. When I took them out, about 30-35 pounds of rust scale fell onto the floor. There was so much scale on the floor you couldn't even see concrete through it haha. Oh yea and someone welded the fenders to the car by the rocker lol. I'm starting to like older stangs alot considering you can get EVERY peice for them for really cheap. I'll post some pics of the carnage when we get the pics off the camera.
Yeah, I couldnt take that much rust. Thanks for all the comments. I went out and bought a bunch of zip lock baggies (gallon and quart) and began labeling them. Got a roll of tape and a marker to label the bigger items. SO far the interior is in a lot better shape than I thought being that it is all there and just needs refurbishing. the Arizona sun eats everthing up (upholstery) but leaves the metal behind. I dont know if the seat springs are reusable or not. cleaning them up and new foam maybe all it needs. I will post pictures of the progress. weekend project along with my other chores.
