getting ready to finish my coupe project and seeing what would look best...with or without the side moldings
i think that would look really weird, keep the moldings... just paint 'em if you don't want them to be black
It would look like chit. I took off quite a bit of the molding when I first bought my LX (Due to it warping). And had it all taken off on one side and clean up, it looked like complete ass. I wouldn't advise or approve of doing it.
I say keep'em. I've seen quite a few of them on MM&FF magazine's without the moldings and it looks like crap IMO
I don't think it would look bad but it would take a lot of filling. I'd get you a pic of my car with them off but it wouldn't really help because my car is a complete work in progress
you can pull it off on 83 & 84 models because the mouldings match the body lines of the car underneath..
The moldings are nice to have if they are nice. If they are warped they look crappy, so I would take them off. Replacing them is very pricy. www.50resto.com. I think they upped the door molding to 169 each. Then the rear fender molding is 68 each and the front quarter molding is like 79 each. You would be spending big dollars on those things!!! I took off a good set carefully and they still curled up like a banana.
I'm glad somebody posted this thread because I have been talking with my composite and prototyping guy about molding me a set of front and rear LX bumpers without the molding molded into them. They would remain fairly stock looking but I'm thinking about modifying the very bottom of the LX bumper cover so that it has a slightly more aggressive and aerodynamically functional look. I'm making a set for myself either way and if people were interested it wouldn't be much for me to have production molds made. I can make them out of fiberglass or a fiberglass with a flex resin in it. The flex resin would raise the cost slightly. The sides of course would need to be filled in to complete the smooth look. My friend Chris owns Group 5 and he's done composite prototyping/molding for over 30 years. We've done a few SEMA cars together the last 3 years for companies such as Pontiac and Chrysler. The one-off front bumper with a molded in chin spoiler was made of flex resin and fit better than the OEM front bumper. I could guarantee atleast production quality fitment. There are also a bunch of other fox body styling parts I'm thinking of marketing. I will be trying to market 3-5 new body parts and will also be building a wild fox body Mustang for SEMA 2008. J
Exactly. On my car i only have the front side of the front fender and back side of the back fender to match the part of the bumper that sticks out. Otherwise it all looks the same and clearner IMO. On the newer cars though i think it's best to have them.
