Hi, I'm looking for the picture of the under car of a mustang II! Because I've been told that the gas tank of those car have a 90° bend with almost no radius! SO I was looking to find a picture to see what is there and why there is a so special bend! Thanks a lot!

If you think the radius is close you should check the bends going from the fenderwell down around the frame up to the fuel pump.

So, you want a pic without the tank in place? I had some close up pics of that area when I converted mine to a fox body tank. I can't seem to find them right now. In fact, I think I started a thread on here probably 3 or so years ago about it when I converted it. You may want to start there, you may get lucky and find it. I will keep looking for those pics and let you know. edit: I looked up the old thread, and there are no pics there. I will keep looking. I can't imagine I don't have them any longer.
iceturbo, It would be easier for to help if we knew what you were looking for, and from what viewpoint. Are you looking for a specific kind of bend from a metal-working or design viewpoint? If so, the MII does not have any unusual design features (with regard to sheetmetal design). A "90° bend with almost no radius" would be a very poor design feature in a structural stamping like a floorpan or frame rail because it would have very little strength in an accident, plus it would be difficult to stamp without tearing the metal. A non-structural element like a fuel tank may have a "90° bend with almost no radius", but it will usually be at a flange again because of the difficulty in drawing the metal to that angle in the middle of a stamping. In fact in the fuel tank pic above, you can see the flange that mates the two halves of the tank together has a "90° bend with almost no radius", but the rest of the tank has 90° bends with at least 1 inch radius. I guess I'm just trying to understand your question better.

Here are two of the pics that Iceturbo sent me...cropped and reduced a bit. They appear to be of two different tanks. I recall that there are at least two tank designs for the MII. Are there more? Do we know the dates that these tanks were used? The pics also show the small radius bend that he is concerned with...its where the upper dome meets the flat deck. Apparently this radius is so tight that it will cause manufacturing problems. Would there be a clearance problem with increasing this radius to 1 inch? Iceturbo works for a manufacturer that is investigating making replacement MII fuel tanks, so it would be great if we could get him some info. I'm calling this tank "No1", but it looks like the one I have in my 1978 coupe (without the saddle tank).
Here is a pic of the rear of my 78 coupe with everything removed. I've labeled the curve of the spare tire well, which I see as a possible area of interference if the radius of the bend between the tank dome and the deck is increased to 1 inch. Does anyone have a pic of their tank installed with this area clearly shown? It would help determine if there is a possibility of interference. Also...are the tank straps the same for both tanks? Is there a source for new tanks straps? How about for fuel level senders? Anybody near Quebec want to be a tester for a new tank? Thanks!
