I dont know if it's the weather (very humid, sudden temp change) or...something more serious. I'm fearing the worst.

Some of you that have had heater cores go bad...does this look familiar? There is no coolant on the ground or dripping from the drain hose.

That's what I though, too. I guess I know where my mystery coolant leak was.

    Thanks again.

Easy.. I know where all the bolts are and how to remove things quickly and efficiently. I have done 6+ heatcore jobs. Its easy. i can have the whole dash and old heater core out barring no real problems in 45 mins.

Well, if you have done it over 6 times, know exactly what tools you need and have them right at hand, it is possible I guess.

I know that it would be an all day project for me.

TO the OP, BTW- If you are replacing the heater core-- spend the extra money and get a Ford one. You do not want to do it twice.

IF it is not leaking, then backflush it. Don't replace it until you try this first.

My girlfriend used to have this 93 Escort that the windows would fog up, barely any heat, and smell like coolant. I bought a heater core and my Dad told me to back flush it. I got a buch of crap out of there and I put it all back together and what do you know?? No more fog, great heat and no more smell. Went back to AP store and returned heater core. :)

Not having a center console speeds up the heater core swap process a bit, too, as it's one less thing to remove to get the dash loose to move forward to access the heater box - perhaps the ONLY reason I'm planning on replacing the core in my '84. Out here in AZ, you only really need a heater for maybe one month out of the whole year; the rest of the time, a good leather jacket and some gloves are adequate.

The fastest i have gotten them done is 5 hours, and that is soup to nuts. :) Just make a weekend project out of it and dont care about the time-have a few brews, take some breaks, make a few calls, this way-You wont go nuts with the time spent. :) hahaha

If it is the heater core don't be afraid to do it yourself. I have A/C so I have the job is a little more involved. Just be careful with what you do with the screws/where they go and take pictures of how things go together if you have to. I hope it isn't your core but if it is good luck its not that bad!

This is 67coupe. I'm posting from the old man's account. Visiting parents for holidays.

Will do. I got burned by an autozone replacement on my 67. Ended up doing that job twice

Great idea! Any chemicals...or just water?

Definitely not afraid to do it myself. I just spent the whole weekend working on the car. New tranny mount, cruise control module, and steering rack. I guess I'll have to make another weekend out of it.

I just used water. I didn't use a nozzle either. I just used the open end of the garden hose running full blast. The water that came out was black and grey, then chunks then clear water. I couldn't believe what came out.

Hopefully, the car never got "stop leak"....that chit should NEVER be used. It plugs up everything.

Thanks. I'll try it out. I've had the car since the 50k mile mark (155k now), I haven't put any stopleak in.

EDIT: Which line is the feed line?

Well, I flushed it and the fogging stopped for a few days. But, this morning, I walked out to the carport to find a nice large puddle of anti-freeze under the passenger side of the car. Popping the hood and inspecting the A/C drain confirmed it. The heater core is toast.

Called the local Ford dealer - $70 !!!!!!! :jaw:

Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend. Good thing I have Friday off because I'm not missing a second of the SEC Champ game!

    Wish me luck.
