2001 GT 78k miles replaced Idle Air Control Valve around 40k miles Had a food delivery job and I believe the car didn't like being shut on and off 20+ times a day.
'00 hit 34,000 today. Runs great except hard to get into reverse (always has been) and a problem with it idling low which I think is because I put in a new CAI kit recently and I think it might be needing a tune to adjust to it.
Of all the stangs i've had (4, 3 5.0's, 1 4.6) it was always tricky getting into reverse, it's the way the T5 and T45 are, all you gotta do is put it in first let the clutch out just a tiny bit so the car begins to move then engage the clutch and go straight to reverse, it will go in every time. In my 5.0's sometimes i'd just go into 4th, then up and right down into reverse. Both methods work very well. Esp. the first one. :SNSign:
I'm at/near 130k on my 4.6l and no uncommon engine problems. I've done the common intake manifold swap (reinforced one), and cleaned the IAC, though that's about it. I noticed my rear has a small leak aswell, so I should check that out soon. It's barely leaking at all, though I noticed it when the car was on jack stands the other day.
It's very easy to service it. Take off the bolts, use a razor to clean around the edge of the rear and the cover, may as well spray paint the cover while it's off, and you dont need a sealer or gasket, just bolt it back on and fill properly. Oh, btw, i've noticed, after more evaluation, it's not a knock, it's more of a clatter, but soo soo slight, only noticable from idle to 1800 rpm or so, in neutral, ya know just tappin the gas. Driving it's not noticable at all, certainly not under a load, like say, in 4th gear on a hill at 2000rpm, giving gas to accel up hill, if there were an engine problem, I think i'd hear it then. I think im good to go for another 30-40 k. I dont beat it really, and I use the best oil filter and royal purple oil, which gets changed every 2k miles. :SNSign:
