I want to do away with my power steering and was just wondering if there is a way to reroute the serpentine belt on my 2.3 to bypass the p/s pump. Maybe with a smaller belt? Has anyone done this?

all you would have to do is just throw a small belt on it.

+1 on the small belt. Use some string to figure out the rough length and go from there..

this has been disscussed on many sites! why do you want to do this? the powersteering only takes power from the motor if turning. also before you do this go out to your car, unlock the steering wheel and dont start it. now try to turn the steering wheel without it started! then see if you deside to unhook your power steering? peace

I've driven it tiwthout power steering the whole time I've had it because it has a bad leak. Then the pump froze up so that's why I Want to disconnect it.

My power stearing IS seized and the car dosent wanna run with it like that (abviously if it did id burn a belt real quick) but im worried about the, spines?, on the back side of the belt being on the flat tensioner... will it work without the belt wearing down really quik?

    thanks

Just buy a belt for a 2.3 Ranger. The Ranger had optional power steering, so you can take off the pump and just run without. Good luck!:nice:

i guess what i really need to know is if the back side of the belt is good on the tensioner or will it cause mass belt wear

k, so i replaced the tensioner with the one thats on the smog pump side (with ribs) so now i think i just need a belt to run from the crank to the water pump, to the alt across the tensioner back to the crank... will that work?

    thanks
